Entryway/Walkway Landscaping
It matters not if you have a reasonable sized yard or just a brief walk up to successfully execute this landscaping design. Planting shrubs or flower beds along side of the walkway up to your front door. You can can combine this with a bit of track lighting for a very nice effect without really compromising much of the yard you are working with. This is also a nice area to plant a low growing tree to give your home some curb appeal.
An Explosion of Color
When using flowers and colorful plants to add color to your landscape, there are a few tricks you need to know. Staying within the same color family can actually make the space appear multidimensional. It is also very beneficial to use an arbor with flowers and vines growing around it. This makes a small space look very magical. Staying within the same color family will also give your garden a look of unity. Placing larger plants in the background and stacking smaller plants in front of them according to size will give the most impact for use of your space. This will give you that professional look without too much effort.
Functional Outdoor Living
Even if space is limited, you should at least consider adding some kid of seating outside. This allows you a place to come and enjoy your garden. A Gazebo adds a beautiful touch. Some people prefer to use a Gazebo even if occupies most of the available space. You will have to go with your personal preferences. If this is not an option, a simple garden bench can really add to the desire to sit in your landscaped area.
A Water Garden or Small Pond
Many people think that if they have a very small area, a water garden is no longer an option. This is simply not true. A small pond can give a dreamy look and can even be utilized right in front of your home. If you have a little more room, placing a small rock wall around a pond will make it look like your yard was featured in a storybook. This is also a great place to place a small garden statue. This will give your space a well thought out look.
Very Small Garden Ideas
If your space is so limited that none of these ideas, you can still use plants and flowers to add character to your home. You can do a very simple and shallow flower box on each side of your front door. This will give you a nice impact without worrying about occupying too much space. If you have no front yard, you can still add to the curb appeal of your home by using window garden boxes. These can look quite lovely. If you want the fairy tale look and have no space, this may just be the answer for you. Even a simple window box outside of kitchen window can allow you to grow herbs for cooking and make your home look landscaped all the way around.
