Lane Bryant Clothes: Fall Fashion Review 2006

Stephanie Dray
Lane Bryant clothes are the cream of the crop when it comes to plus size fashion. And this season is no exception. Hands down, this autumn's Lane Bryant clothes are the most crisply tailored, fashion-forward collection for plus size women available. One glance at the Lane Bryant clothes in the career section, and you'll see that pinstripes, herringbone, and tweed are back with a vengeance.

The Chelsea wide-leg in herringbone shadow stripe is offered in a wonderful stretchy fabric that, nonetheless, has a crisp business profile. These plus size pants are machine washable. They're also available in tall, petite and average. The extremely wide legs will balance a plus size figure and allow you to make a statement the way only Lane Bryant clothes can. The Cuffed plaid Houston pant is another classy option for plus size pants and has a matching plus size plaid bustier, just for kicks.

This autumn, plus size Lane Bryant clothes are not only available in masculine patterns, but pretty paisleys too. Check out the Shirred-strap cami. At 31" it's the perfect length to throw over a pair of plus size jeans, and the pretty pattern will work well with a solid shrug or bolero to fight the nippy air. And if you're not a paisley kind of girl, there's always the timeless argyle. This Cropped argyle cardigan looks fantastic over a crisp button down shirt, and has that polished look that is a hallmark of Lane Bryant clothes. If it's stripes that tickle your fancy, this sporty little Contrast-striped tie shrug is currently on sale for less than $15. Or slide into a fantastic plus size transitional piece, a Striped short-sleeved tunic, which takes advantage of both the white and black trend and the 80s sweater in an updated fashion.

If you pick through Lane Bryant clothes, you may occasionally find some extraordinary plus size dresses. The top picks for this fall include a jaw-dropping sateen cocktail dress in a black and white print that cinches just above the waist to emphasize the narrowest part of your body. Paired with a black shrug, it's scrumptious. And when you're checking out Lane Bryant clothes, don't forget to look at their plus size outerwear. Unfortunately, most of the upper range sizes are limited to a color palate of black, brown, and more brown. But their trench-style shirt jacket comes in a brick red if you can find it in the Lane Bryant store. This plus size jacket has an "urban jungle" feel to it, and will look smart over almost anything you wear around the city.

Disappointingly, Lane Bryant offers no wide calf boots this season. Nor have they expanded their size range. Last year they made a big fuss that they were going to add smaller and larger size options. They seem to have added more size 12 options, but nothing else - not encouraging from a company that is trading on the favor of plus size women, rather than women who can shop in any other store at the mall. If this irks you, you may consider sending a complaint about the size range of Lane Bryant clothes.

(End Note: When this article talks about Lane Bryant clothes, it refers to the fashion line offered by the Lane Bryant store, not the unrelated plus size catalog.)

Lane Byran really let me down when I went into their store the other day, looking for lingerie that would fit my odd size. I was saddened by the lack of sizes available in store and the boring look to all of it.
