Lane Kiffin to USC

Jacob Horn
When I first heard that Kiffin was going to USC I could not help but think that USC was making a major mistake. After reading a few articles and seeing the ties that Kiffin had to the university the move makes more sense. Only time will tell if this was a good move but I think USC should have looked for a proven winner. Kiffin is a proven winner as an assistant coach but his record as a head coach is nothing to write home about. USC is a football powerhouse. There is no doubt about that and I understand wanting to pick someone who is familiar with the system but this guy has had very little to no success as a head coach. Do you really want to risk the prestige of your program on a guy like that?

I will say this, USC is getting a good package with Kiffin. Norm Chow is possibly coming back, Monte Kiffin is following his son, and Ed Orgeron is following suit. I mean Kiffin maybe a 3 out of 10 but this package of assistant coaches is an 11 out of 10. I won't be surprised if Kiffin has some success at USC but his last stint in California did not work out so well. Okay, anybody coaching the Raiders post 2004 gets a pass.
