The first environment in which babies experience language is the home. It is important that parents talk to their babies using proper English, rather than baby talk. Parents can do this by talking to the their babies while their cooking or cleaning and describing what they are doing to the baby.
To help my son with his language development skills, I read to him daily. Since I'm a busy student at Western Governors University sometimes I would even read my papers or textbooks to him. My son is only 11 months old and has a vocabulary of over 30 words. When ever he wants to read he walk or crawls over to the bookshelf grabs and book and says" read, read". When every I read with my son we snuggle up together on he couch. We do more than just read the book, we examine them. We point to pictures and say the names of them or the sounds they make if they are an animal. Letting my son sit on my lap as we read helps promote that reading is fun and means that he gets to be with Mommy. When he gets a little bit older, I plan to start asking him questions about the books. Like what he liked, or names of characters that may have been in the book.. By doing these things I was promoting an environment that included literacy. By reading to my son I am showing an interest in literacy development. Reading with my son also promotes a high slandered of social interaction with our family. This type of environment is most likely to be found among families that are healthy and that are middle or high class. Many lower class families do not do these type of things with their children.
There are many families that unintentionally discourage adequate language development at a young age. This usually takes place in a family where interaction and commutation between child and caregiver doesn't take place often. This is common in families where both parents work. This usually happens when parents come home already exhausted then, there are chores that need to be done and dinner that needs to be cooked. Next baths and showers and off to bed. All of these things take away time from reading to children or just talking to them. This situation gives children little to no time to practice reading and little time to practice using their language skills. Children in these types of situations usually have interaction from their peers, and lack the quality of interactions that they would receive from an adult.
Another facto that may disgorge a child's language development is the health of their parents or caregivers. In this type of situation parents usually have guilt about not being their for their children and are stressed from work and everyday life. Parents may also fall into a depression, because they do not spend any time with their family. This usually takes place in a lower class family. Theses types of families usually live in bad neighborhoods and have a difficult time reaching the library or store to buy books.
Early language development is essential for affective subsequent language development. From the above situations I can see the my son is thriving in a literary rich environment. From this I can tell that my son has a good chance of succeeding in communication, reading and writing. This will give him a better chance than myself and his father had as children. His father and I are both dyslexia and come from lower class families. We are hoping that if our son did inherited the learning disability that he will have a better chance for success.
Young children and babies that have been raised in a literacy rich environment , where they are read to, talked to and sang to are more likely to excel when then start school. Many states, such as Florida have implemented a free VPK program to teach four year olds from all classes of life basic reading and writing skills that they will need when they start Kindergarten. Most children who are struggling in school can be said to come from a non-literacy rich environment. These children usually have difficulties communicating, reading and writing. Many of these problems can be corrected if caught early enough.

Although children that come from a literacy rich environment are most likely to succeed, this is not always the case. There are several other factors that can affect a child's chance at being successful in communication, reading and writing. This also means that children from a high class or middles class family many struggles, while a child from a lower class family may succeed. No matter the case, it is also important that literacy friendly and literacy rich environment to help promote these skills in their children. It is the job of the teacher to become filmier with students backgrounds and home environment. It is also important that teachers help, parents to create a literacy rich environment.
From my own personal experience, I can say that not every child from a literacy rich environment will succeed, but this type of environment gives children a better chance at succeeding. Other factors such as learning debilities, friends, drugs and many others can also effect a child's chance to be successful in literacy. It is very important to have children in a literacy rich environment starting at birth ,so they are better prepared when they enter school and have an advantage in learning
