The first advantage of using a computer laptop is the ease with which you can carry it around your house and still be connected to your home network. Even if you are not on a network, it still makes sense to bring the system to where you would like to work from rather than having to pull up before a desktop system. Laptops are comfortable when you just want to surf the web or read blogs in the comfort of your living room or even the bedroom.
Notebooks are advantageous for they can be taken along wherever you go. Students are able to take the laptop with them to the class or to the library while businesspeople can take them along while traveling. Since WiFi is widely available, you can even check your email when on vacation. You would also be able to upload photos of your travel spots and email them to friends and family while on vacation. You could use it to write your travel blog and upload pictures from your digital camera.
2. Better Displays
With advancements in display technology laptops have better quality displays nowadays.
For example, Apple's MacBook is available with a 13.3-inch LCD widescreen (1280 x 800 pixels), a 15.4-inch LCD widescreen (1440 x 900 pixels) or a 17-inch widescreen (1680 x 1050 pixels). Likewise, the Compaq Presario has a 15.4-inch display.
3. Lighter Weight
The weight of a notebook has come down considerably over the years. Laptops that once weighed seven pounds are now no more than four pounds. For example, the Toshiba Portege weighs at about four pounds. The new ultralight convertibles such as Fujitsu's LifeBook U810 weigh only a pound and half.
4. Better Computing and Battery Power
In yesteryears, notebooks were dramatically limited by the amount of RAM they could have, notwithstanding a limited space hard drive, and a battery life that left much to be desired for. Today, however, laptops pack much more power than their traditional desktop counterparts. The MacBook, for example, has 1GB of memory (configurable up to 4 GB) and a hard drive that can be configured to 250GB. This is sure to make you comfortable working with the programs you work with, at a brisk pace. Battery life has improved considerably, with newer laptop batteries not getting heated up as they once did.
5. More Features
Older laptops were handicapped by their size and weight when you wanted to add newer features. Today, however, notebooks come with more features than you can ask for.
For example, the MacBook has a built-in webcam, DVD player, two USB ports, built-in wireless capability, FireWire port, built-in microphone, and audio and digital input/output.
Thus there are many advantages to owning a laptop/notebook over a desktop so before you buy your next computer, it would be in your best interest to do the research work.
