Vista itself has worked great with all my programs besides some music software like old versions of Cubase, but everything else has gone off without a hitch. Really the only thing I wish it came with was a 12 cell battery but for 500 $ you can't get the world, but you get damn close.
Compaq's software is really handy to do total system checks and make sure you computer stays up to date even for "newbies" , then with a free year with Norton's Anti Virus and Firewall the internet is safe also.
The 15 inch widescreen monitor is great , crisp and clear. Wifi on the Compaq Presario F700 is stable and fast , even at local coffee shops I get about 300/KBS which is great for a public connection. The Compaq Presario F700 also comes with a handy dandy DVD RW disk drive to store all your files and programs and is very easy to use with the Vista operation system.
The total system spec is ...
AMD Processor Class:Athlon 64 X2 Processor w/ 1.8 GHz Processor Speed:
1.6 GHz Mobile Front Side Bus
L2 Cache Size:512 KB
DDR2-SDRAM Installed Memory:1 GB Maximum Memory 2 GB Memory Slots Total ( Comes with X2 512 MB sticks of RAM )
Total Hard Drive Capacity:120 GB Drive Controllers:SATA-150 Rotational Speed:5400 RPM
Optical Drives:LightScribe Double Layer DVD+/-RW SuperMulti Drive:
Overall this is a great machine for the money and I was let down by only one thing , the ram. I sorta did not like how they give you 2 sticks of 512 ram besides just giving you a 1 GB stick but overall that is a minor mistake. If you want a nice mobile laptop and don't want to brake the bank doing so, this is your machine. It also makes a great Christmas gift to a loved one.
If you are buying this machine for yourself or as a gift you might want to consider a few extra goodies to go with it. First off you want to protect your investment so you might want to pick up a mobile case for your new laptop to protect it when you bring it out of your house.
Another great add on is a USB laser mouse, I find they are the most accurate mouse for your money and can be very affordable now these days, a non wireless laser mouse can be found for about 10 - 15 dollars. If you like to listen to loud music you may also want to get a pair of external speakers , the internal are great for a laptop but can't touch the sound of real external speakers.
Anyone who would wants a mid range system for a low range system price , look no more.

Post a Commentthis laptop have same problem like compaq dv series after 2 years video is overheat and melt balls under gpu :(
Yes that's correct, this laptop dose support 4 gig's of DDR2 667 SO-DIMM ram witch is 200 - pin. I just upgraded mine with the 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop from G.SKILL & also upgraded my hard drive to the Scorpio Black 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s notbook drive from Western Digital & it works like a dream makeing it a good modern laptop agen. I have no over heating probs because only retards dont use a notbook/laptop/netbook/Mac book cooler. What do you expect when you make parts smaller & put them in a smaller tight case with one dinky ass fan ? THis is not a gameing laptop so play games @ your own risk graphics card blows on this but will play kid games rather nicely.
advice for harddrive replacement: after reading about what how you others had to spend all that money for a diagnosis, replacement, or to "fix" it hp sounds more and more like a ripoff. I should state thet my aftermarket "replacement" drive was only ~$50 dollars, eco friendly lowpower type, 320 gigs. any computer hardware store will sell new drives for about 50-70 dollars
ive had mine for 2 or so years now, and everything works great on it. the only issue i have is it DOES overheat frequently and shut down. I wiped the whole thing and installed linux, which uses less processor power, so it doesnt overheat as much now, but anything that taxes it very much will still overheat it... you know, just not as often.
Had this 2 years only problems are the fan sucks and the mouse-pad is getting discolored neither are big things i just put a desk-fan underneath the laptop for long nights of school work :)
i completely hate this laptop. the wifi went completely missing after the first year. the fan doesn't cool at all, now there are horrible noises coming from it whenever i move it. not that i can move it anymore, the battery life sucked from the first day and now i just have the computer plugged in all the time.
DO NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER, OR BUY IT FOR SOMEONE ELSE!
Computer is terrible. Constantly overheating and shutting off.
I have mine 2 years and the only things that have gone wrong is the shift key getting stuck and falling off, battery dies fast and the battery charger lead getting broke (twice) Also had a major virus but I blame that on Norton (worst AV ever)
2 years on still going amazingly strong, apart from low memory (16,000 songs eats RAM) it's fine. I pretty much have had it running at least 14 hours a day for the past 2 years, one stage it ran for a week straight and it didn't effect it. Most reliable laptop ever.
worseeeeeeeee laptop everr !! omg i regrett the time that i bought it for the rest of my life !! wifi stopped working, aswell as the board same problem dude
i would not recommend buying that compaq presario f700 .. i have the same problem as everyone the wifi stopped working after a year .. and after that .. the board got broken .. i'm gona get a Toshiba aswell
