Unless you have professional experience upgrading laptops, the only two components that you can easily upgrade are your memory and hard drive.

Overall the desktop is going have better hardware including a faster processor speed, larger storage capacity, and more memory. If you plan on using memory-intensive applications or graphically-intensive games, then definitely get a desktop. However, the gap between laptop capabilities versus desktops capabilities is quickly closing and for most programs a laptop will fulfill your needs. Look at exactly what you will be using your computer for and determine which one satisfies your needs the best.

Additional features

Laptops and desktops broadly differ when it comes to additional features. Desktops will have more USB ports, card reader formats, and maybe even an extra optical drive. Laptops sometimes have an all-in-one card reader, but one big plus of laptops is wireless internet. More laptops have wireless internet than desktops. Furthermore, a more and more common feature of laptops is a built-in web cam. Web cams for desktops come with certain models of monitors or more commonly as an add-on attachment.
