Largest Snowstorms in NYC History

Joe Dorish
Weather data has been collected in NYC in Central Park since 1869. Since 1869 there have been six snowstorms that dumped 20 or more inches of snow in NYC. These are the dates of those six snowstorms and the total snow accumulations from each of the blizzards.

Take a look at the data and see if you notice anything unusual.

Largest Snowstorms in NYC History

1) 26.9" on February 11-12, 2006

2) 26.4" on December 26-27-1947

3) 21.0" on March 12-14, 1888

4) 20.9" on February 25-26, 2010

5) 20.2" on January 7-8, 1996

6) 20.0" on December 26-27, 2010

Since 1869 there have been only six snowstorms that dumped over 20 inches of snow in Central Park. Four of the six snowstorms have all occurred in the last 14 years. And three of the snowstorms have occurred in the last 4 years. And two of the snowstorms occurred in 2010.

What to make of the snowstorm data? It's probably just random weather fluctuations but it could signal the start of the next ice age or the next mini ice age. It certainly is troubling data for proponents of global warming.
