The Larien Products Bagel Biter is sold for anywhere between twenty to forty dollars. It is tiny and looks like a mini- guillotine. The Larien Products Bagel Biter actually looks scary at first, like its going to cut your fingers into perfect little slices. But no fear--this is actually safer than a knife. All you have to do is place the bagel into the Larien Products Bagel Biter's white container and push the slicing mechanism--and off with her head!
But seriously, the Larien Products Bagel Biter does work, however not as perfectly as it is described on TV and in the print ads. Perhaps its my bagels which are just too big, or the Larien Products Bagel Bite, which can't handle them. But the Larien Products Bagel Biter claims to use a high carbon stainless steel blade with a high-impact durable molded base. It further claims to "strike fear in the hearts of the most stalwart bagels". However, this did not hold true in my case, as I have to push the Larien Products Bagel Biter down a couple of times, sometimes three or four times, whenever I use it.
That is when I discovered the Larien Commercial Bagel Biter (same manufacturer, but an upgraded version of the Larien Products Bagel Biter). I was ranting to a friend and she told me I should have gotten the Commercial Bagel Biter since I buy heavy-duty bagels. The difference between the Larien Products Bagel Biter and the Larien Commercial Bagel Biter is that the latter uses a heavy duty guillotine, and claims that its nonstick coated blade slice any bagel up to five inches in diameter and two inches thick.
Sounded perfect and yes, the Larien Commercial Bagel Biter did work better than the Larien Products Bagel Biter. With just one push, the Larien Commercial Bagel Biter sliced my bagel into two perfect halves, sans any crumbs, ridges and hassles. The Larien Commercial Bagel Biter sells for around thirty six dollars.
What I like about both Larien Bagel Biters is that they are dishwasher safe and have a one year factory warranty. Both have polycarbonate shields which protect the hands from the blade. Although of course I would still keep this product away from children.
