Larry Johnson Twitter Slur to Cost Johnson His Job?

Robert Dougherty
The Larry Johnson Twitter slur has made Larry Johnson a PR nightmare. So thanks to the Larry Johnson Twitter slur, and his repeating it in person, Larry Johnson's future with the Kansas City Chiefs is in danger. Larry Johnson's Twitter slur could have gone a little under the radar, if not for Johnson repeating it when talking to reporters the next day. With Larry Johnson's two gay slurs, he is now barred from the team until the Chiefs take action - which could include his release.

The first Larry Johnson Twitter slur came on Sunday, when his Twitterings after the Chiefs 37-7 loss to the Chargers included slams at coach Todd Haley. When a follower later replied, Johnson called him a "f*g." The gay slur was then repeated by Johnson in person, when he called reporters fa**ots after saying he didn't want to talk to them until Thursday.

The Larry Johnson gay slurs have gotten him barred from the team until they decide what to do with him. According to RealGM Football, their ultimate decision will be to release Johnson from the team. The website's source claims that Johnson will be released before the end of the week.

Releasing Larry Johnson was considered unthinkable years ago, when he was the undisputed star of the Chiefs. But Johnson's productivity has been hampered by injuries, and by the Chiefs' downfall into the AFC West cellar.

Even before the Larry Johnson Twitter slur, he has been in his share of off-field trouble. But those were over contract disputes, not over gay slurs. Still, if Johnson is released, they can use his negative comments about Todd Haley as another primary reason for it, not just because of the gay slurs.

The Larry Johnson Twitter slur is just the latest example this month of homosexual slurs in the world of sports. The previous example involved retired NBA legends, however, as Magic Johnson's new book accused Isiah Thomas of slandering him as gay. However, those two are long retired and already established as legends, whereas Larry Johnson's words could cost him his job and ruin what is left of his career.

Larry Johnson's Twitter slur also highlights how NFL players can get in trouble with the communication tool. The NFL has tried to crack down on when and how players can use Twitter - but such rules may come too late to save Johnson and his reputation.

I agree, people need to get a grip, someone is constantly getting offended. People need to get thicker skin.

What is the world coming to when you cant even call someone a fag? It has nothing to do with homosexuality, it simply like calling someone a pansy or a b!tch.

People need to relax already. WAAAA! Boo Hooo!!
