Larry King to Creflo Dollar: Britney Spears is More Important Than What You Have to Say

Britney's Problem is Too Much Attention

David Patrick
Everyone who reads my articles already knows that I am somewhat of a fan of Dr. Creflo Dollar. I really respect him and his ministry. But my gripe today goes beyond my admiration of the pastor. It has more to do with my distaste for the media craving of any thing that Britney Spears does. On January 4, 2008 Larry King Live was to feature Creflo Dollar talking about his new book, 8 Steps to Create the Life You Want -- The Anatomy of a Successful Life. Instead Britney Spears had a mental melt-down and Larry King spent 45 minutes talking to experts on what her problem is. Larry talked to some mental health experts and then at the half came back and talked another 15 minutes to talk to Judge Mathis and another judge about whether she should go to jail.

Finally in the last 15 minutes, Larry got Dr. Dollar on and spent the majority of the time talking about the investigation of Senator Grassley. Larry asked more questions challenging the pastor's morals and whether his lavish lifestyle was right than about the book. Larry then asked a very hypocritical question asking Creflo Dollar if he thought it was right for him to buy himself any nice things when there are people in the world that are going without necessities. My first inclination was why would Larry ask that question and he is just as rich, if not more so than Dr. Dollar. The question was so ridiculous that Creflo asked him to repeat it just to make sure he heard it right. The pastor was able to give a severely abridged summary of the book, and the show was over.

The content of the book would have helped to answer some of the questions that Larry and some of the experts had about Britney. Maybe Dr.Dollar should have been on the panel of experts. But I felt that it was a slap in the face to have something going on in Britney's world to take a majority of the time. I would understand if it was something important like the assassination of some world leader, the election, or something... important!

Let me help you diagnose Britney's problem. It's too much attention. One of the contributions to her mental problems is the constant media attention. I told my wife when the meltdown happened that it was the fault of the fans-- not even so much those chasing her down for photos. Here's why I say that. If people were not so hungry to see and hear information about these celebs lives then the photos would not be so valuable. There is no way that Brit's story should have taken center stage on so many news shows. It should have been left for Entertainment Tonight or some other entertainment show. We need to get these things in perspective.

Got up early this morning, turned on the tube, and saw the close of Dollar's show. What an incredible charlatan! He ended the show by suggesting that if people wanted to get a little prosperity into their lives, god would take care of them...AFTER they obeyed the bible's command on tithing, and that maybe they ought to think about that in terms of a donation to Dollar so he could intervene on their behalf. Sounds like Larry King's badgering of Creflo Dollar was right on the money (double pun fully intentional)

The fascination with Brittney is out of control. I guess the good thing is that Creflo was blessed enough to get a chance to be on Larry King's show, even if it didn't go as planned. Great piece Beau!

Boy do I agree. IT may be sad, but the media gets carried away with celebs, and it is a real shame as there are other things in this world than that girl who seems to be off her rocker.

The media needs to leave her alone and let her get on with her life and get some help.

Britney needs a holistic healer to take her in the woods on a 6 month camping trip. Maybe she'd feel a little better after that, rethink her life, do something she actually gives a damn about.

As for the other issue with Dr. Dollar, that is kind of odd that lary king did that. I thought he was about listening.

It is truly sad. I have to say every time I hear her name now I just roll my eyes. I think it is time that people realize she is mentally unstable and it is time to leave her along and let her get the help she needs. I don't find it entertaining at all to watch someone's breakdowns played out in the media. I think it is really sick that people crave seeing this sort of thing.
