We first discovered Larry's one Sunday afternoon when we had just moved in and needed to take a break from unpacking and find some lunch. A friend who knew the area suggested we try Larry's. We stopped in, and got a ham sandwich, French fries, and iced tea. As I recall we spent just a bit over five bucks per person that day.
A few weeks later we decided to try Larry's for breakfast. We spotted Steak and Eggs on the menu, and noticed the price was $5.49. We figured for that price; why not give it a try. We got two eggs the way we wanted them, a 4 ounce rib eye steak cooked to perfection, hash browns, and toast. Everything is delicious. We have ordered the breakfast special so often that when we come in, the owner, Larry Culverhouse knows us and when we walk in for breakfast he automatically starts cooking two specials. I can honestly say I have never seen a steak and eggs breakfast for such a low price. Being able to get a breakfast like this to me is the epitome of cool. I remember when I would watch the Gemini and Apollo launches when I was a kid. They always mentioned that the astronauts would have a breakfast of steak and eggs. Oh yeah, and TangĀ®
One of the nice things about going to Larry's for breakfast is the regular crowd that's always there. We don't know everybody's name, but we know their faces, and they know ours. Everybody talks to each other; it doesn't matter where you sit. You fit in. It's that kind of atmosphere.
Larry's Family Restaurant also has a pretty good dinner menu. We come in periodically and get the Grilled Chicken dinner, which comes with potatoes anyway you want them, and two vegetables. I don't know what they put in their green beans, but they are delicious. They have cornbread that melts in your mouth. The burgers are cooked on a charcoal grill, (the same way they cook the breakfast steaks!) and if catfish is your game, they have some great tasting catfish!
Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, everything is cooked with care, and love. These folks know how to treat their customers. They treat you like family.
So if you are in the North Dallas area and want to try some good old fashioned home cooking, and meet some friendly folks, come to Larry's Family Restaurant.
