The Spooky History of Sin City...

Las Vegas, Nevada is world-renowned for its adult-playground persona. With its lavish casinos, nightclubs and entertainment venues there's no argument in its popularity with tourists; however, Las Vegas possesses a history that also attracts a niche group of enthusiasts. Ghost hunters and general fans of the paranormal can grow to appreciate and even yearn to solve the mysteries of Sin City's haunted hotels and other ghostly points of interest.

Little Choo Choo Daycare
A true grim and dark story lurks behind the history of this Las Vegas daycare facility, and it is one that is shrouded in mystery. In fact, the mysterious nature of the events behind what happened at Little Choo Choo Daycare is borderline "conspiracy" in feeling. The strange thing is, it almost seems as though there is no official evidence left behind of this facility even existing, much less experienced the horrors that allegedly occurred. What lies in its place now, no longer an abandoned, boarded building, is an ordinary automotive parts and repair shop. The only evidence of its past being the random recollections of those who remember the daycare and the events; although many choose to remain silent on this eerie topic.

The story behind Little Choo Choo Daycare involves a disgruntled teacher, who had apparently decided to snap one day and murder one of the children who were in her care at the facility. Those who recollect the tale say that the teacher dragged the boy under the tracks of the gas-powered toy train in the classroom until he was dead. Afterward, she took her own life. Although very few references on this topic can be found, discussions between those who remember the events exist within the depths of internet discussion boards and blogs.

The property that once laid beneath the daycare building has become a bit of an enigmatic legend in Las Vegas and around the globe to those who find interest in it. Many attempt to research and crack the mystery behind the legend, but few come to a resolution. One thing is for certain, however, and that is that eyewitness reports of ghostly occurrences have not ceased. Witnesses claim that the life-like apparition of a young boy can be seen on the property at times, playing with a toy shovel. However, once he is approached by curious visitors of the living realm, he disappears. Other accounts of spooky happenings involve seeing shadowy figures and hearing whispers while the place is dark and vacant. Some people claim to see the ghost of an African-American woman who seems to stroll from the back of the property before fading away.

Could the legend of Little Choo Choo Daycare be an elaborate urban legend or something grisly and real?

Nellis Air Force Base
The military base has existed in the area since around 1941, giving it decades of history and volumes of unsettling tales of eerie feelings and strange sightings. The Shadowlands paranormal website claims that a grayish, shadowy figure has been observed in the area around the base. Whether or not this is factual information is anybody's guess, but eyewitness stories of hauntings do indeed exist. Some rumors are non-factual; however, such as the claim that the property on which the base is built used to be an opera house. The land was desolate and unused prior to the air force base's construction.

One ghostly account does hold some factual history behind it, however. In 2003 a female soldier who had just arrived back from the war in Iraq to the base discovered that her husband had filed for divorce during her absence. Devastated by this news, and the news that he was seeking sole custody of their child, the woman took her own life by managing to shoot herself three times. According to a source on Ghosts of America, the blood-splattered apparition of a female was spotted by some friends shortly after they heard phantom footsteps and their car was unable to start. The source also claims that their headlights came on involuntarily to reveal the ghostly specter.

Ghosts or Not?
A popular urban legend involves the drainage tunnels that run throughout the underground beneath Las Vegas. These tunnels are often cleared out by military officials but in-fact contain nearly 1000 occupants who are homeless. These "mole" people are destitute and some of them attempt to create the appearance of permanent apartment dwellings within the tunnel system. This fact would explain the many rumors that circulate about hearing noises from underground.

One such ghostly legend involves the Sahara and Charleston area of the city. According to Shadowlands and other paranormal sources, witnesses claim that you can hear men and women whispering beneath the road. This just so happens to be one of the entrance areas to the city's series of underground tunnels. However, according to some beliefs, a young couple had died in that spot in the 1950s, and weren't discovered until days after their motorcycle accident. It is rumored that the whispering is the residual spirits of the dead young couple. Perhaps it is really the people who live underneath the city.
