Las Vegas Lines & 5 Best Picks Against Spread: College Football September 4th
College Football's 1st Saturday of Year Has Potential for Wild Opening Weekend
UConn travels to the Big House to take on a reeling Michigan Wolverines team that is only favored by three points. To say this game is a must win for Rich Rodriguez, the head coach of Michigan, is an understatement. The odds on Michigan winning the BCS Championship Game? 100-1 and that is generous.
Another great game that is too close to call but will be fun to watch, is the UCLA Bruins taking on the Kansas State Wildcats. The game will be down to the wire and UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisal will need to bring his best game to beat the Big 12's Kansas State. The following lines are provided by the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook.
Purdue Boilermakers Vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish -11 Against the Spread 12:30 PM PST
The Brian Kelly era gets underway in South Bend, Indiana today with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish taking on the Purdue Boilermakers. Last years match up between these two led to a controversial win by Notre Dame over Purdue in Lafayette, Indiana.
Purdue my have revenge on their mind but can they go into the electric atmosphere of Notre Dame and emerge with a win? Notre Dame's new quarterback, Dayne Crist is fragile, coming of a knee injury in November. Crist has been shielded from contact leading up to this game and it may be a factor. This game has been downgraded from a Notre Dame pick to a pass as of Saturday 5:00 AM PST.
New Mexico Lobos Vs Oregon Ducks -34 Against the Spread12:30 PM PST
PAC 10 Conference champs Oregon are without their star quarterback and Heisman candidate Jeremiah Massoli this season but this won't matter against the weakest team in the Mountain West Conference, New Mexico. Oregon will not win the PAC 10 this season but they will use this game to prove a point at New Mexico's expense. Take Oregon -34 against the spread to win the game in impressive fashion.
Washington Huskies Vs BYU Cougars -3 Against the Spread 4:00 PM PST
BYU will be leaving the Mountain West Conference after this season and this game against the Washington Huskies could be a critical game for their future. Washington is stronger than they were last season and this game is important for Jake Locker and his Heismain Trophy hopes. BYU is a team in transition but they will be hard to beat at home. Take BYU -3 against the spread to win this game but it will be close.
Oregon State Beavers Vs TCU Horned Frogs -11.5 Against the Spread 4:45 PM PST
Mountain West champs, the TCU Horned Frogs have significant losses on defense but their offense is almost completely intact. The Oregon State offense is one of the most potent in the PAC 10 with the Rodgers bothers, Jacquizz as the dynamic running back and James as the deep the threat wide receiver. Both have been talking trash on their Twitter accounts heading into this game and may be taking TCU lightly.
The Las Vegas Hilton Superbook is not buying into Oregon State's confidence with the line set at -11.5 points. The game will be played in Cowboys Stadium which is not TCU's normal venue. With normal TCU attendance one of the lowest in the conference, it will be interesting to see how many fans turn out for this one. Take the TCU Horned Frogs -11.5 against the spread and look for them to make a statement in this game.
Cincinnati Bearcats -1.5 Against the Spread Vs Fresno State Bulldogs 7:00 PM PST
This game has flip-flopped during the week and in some sportsbooks there may be a line of -1.5 for the Fresno State Bulldogs. Pat Hill, the head coach for Fresno State, lives for these type of games. He schedules big programs early to get his team motivated right out of the gate.
Butch Davis takes over a Cincinnati Bearcats program with decent talent but nothing on the caliber of the team under Brian Kelly's command last season. Quarterback Zach Collaros has experience but game breaker, Mardy Gilyard is missing as a target and running back, Isaiah Pead is unreliable at best. Take Fresno State +1.5 against the spread on their home field.
