Las Vegas: Madame Tussauds is Worth the High Price but You May Not Want to Go Everytime

Considering the Price, This Attraction was Smaller Than Expected

When planning my Las Vegas trip for September 2007, the Wax Museum at the Venetian was on the top of my list. I had seen pictures of the museum of the same name that my family had visited in New York and it looked like a lot of fun. To locate this attraction, just walk to the Venetian then follow the signs that direct you right to it. It's almost impossible to miss since a few wax celebs will be waiting to greet you at the entrance.

What is it?
As you can see by my pictures, the museum is made up of celebrities! Except these celebrities are all made of wax. Celebrities, Athletes and Political Figures are displayed as close to their actual look as possible, down to the clothing, poses and facial expressions. New celebs are brought in every so often as old ones are phased out. In addition, some of the celebs also have props and backgrounds to really put them into a scene.

Tickets and Hours
I printed off a coupon on the Venetian website that offered $4 off the $24 ticket price. I don't know if this coupon is always available, but you should search the internet and I am sure you will find one. Tickets are for sale online, but I really had no problem waiting in the 10 minute line. I'm sure there are times when the attraction gets more crowded, but on a Monday afternoon in September it was not long to get in at all.

The hours are also available on the Venetian website. During our visit, it was open from 10 AM - 11 PM everyday. We went around noon and there were not many people there. I imagine it would get more crowded when the dinner crowd is out and about. Hours change throughout the year, so check that website link for more details.

On with the Celebrities
Now that we are passed all the FAQs, how about some celebrities? Walking in to the attraction the first celebrity we got to see was Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. So you can see that they keep the attraction pretty up to date with recent celebs. I have about 26 pictures of different celebs and politicians from this attraction, and I would say there were about 12 more that I didn't take pictures of. Our favorites were Johnny Depp, The Rock, Shaq, Simon Cowell and Ryan Secrest, and of course The President of the United States.

This is when I realized just how small this attraction really is. We were at the end before we knew it and wishing we had lingered longer with each celeb. Everyone in the attraction is in such a rush to see what celebrity lies around the next corner that you don't even realize you are almost leaving the attraction. Take my advice and spend some time with each celeb. Take your time with pictures and take more than one. Have fun with it! The best part of this attraction is getting up close and personal with the wax celebs, and taking funny pictures to take home with you. When you feel the urge to rush through it, remember my advice and slow it down.

Snap! Snap!
As I said, the main enjoyment comes from taking pictures with the celebs. You have to let go of your inhibitions and have some fun! Don't just stand with each one, that's no fun. If you are embarrassed because people are watching you take pics, just wait a few minutes for them to move on. Now that I know how small the attraction is, I wish I would have taken multiple pictures with each celeb and had more fun with it. One of the things my family members did at the was museum they visited was try to mimic the poses of the celeb for their pics.

Another thing I was disappointed in was the lighting. In some places it was so dim that my pictures were very hard to take. I didn't really understand this. Since this attraction is meant for photos, why dim the lights so much? Make sure you bring a good camera with a good flash and get close to your subjects if you want your pictures to come out in the end. You may have to try multiple settings on your camera in order to get it to work properly. Make sure you know how to use your camera as well! Other people are just as excited as you to take pictures and they will grow impatient if you take too long. Like I said though, if you want to move slower, just let those people go ahead of you to take pics so you can take your time.

Was it Worth it?
Even though it was smaller than I thought, the attraction was worth the $20 per person price we paid. Most of the celebs looked very real and very much like they do in real life. Only a few looked off and there were only a few where I had to read the label to see who it was supposed to be. There is a good variety of famous actors, performers, athletes and politicians.

I would not visit this attraction everytime I was in Vegas unless someone else wanted to. I would wait at least 3-5 years so that the celebs would be rotated and there would be new people to see! If you are not at all into pop culture or celebs, then you should pass on this attraction. However if you follow the lives of all the popular celebs and politicians, check it out. Depending on how long you linger, it could take anywhere from 1 hour to a whole day to get your pics with the celebs. I love to take pictures so if we didn't have other plans I would have loved to take more fun pics and poses with each celeb. I still had fun, but to make it worth the money you have to spend more time there. Enjoy!!
