Las Vegas Theaters Cancel Showing of Electric Daisy Carnival Documentary

The Las Vegas run of the Electric Daisy Carnival movie event slated Aug. 4, 2011, was canceled by the hosting Las Vegas theaters. This decision followed the unlikely event that happened in Los Angeles when superstar DJ Kaskade tweeted about a free block party prior to the screening, which led to a flash mob in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. The said July 27 event was meant to premiere the documentary about the successful music festival at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway from June 24-26, 2011.

According to news reports, the unruly crowd, counting about 800, threw bottles, vandalized cars, and refused orders to disperse after they were forced to leave the overcrowded theater within the area of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue. This was not the first incident related to the Electric Daisy Carnival; its 2010 edition resulted in some ravers jumping the fence to get into the L.A. Memorial Coliseum field, the death of a 15-year-old girl, and other security and safety issues. The 2011 festival transferred to Las Vegas, which hosted a considerably safer and problem-free festival.

Thinking the said Hollywood episode wouldn't be an isolated incident, the long-running signature event's documentary film was pulled out from Las Vegas theaters for the supposed Aug. 4 screening. Participating theaters, including large chains AMC, Regal, and Cinemark, canceled their scheduled events around the city.

The Aug. 4 event featuring the concert documentary still showed in more than 70 cities across the United States, including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Louisville, Forth Worth, and Cincinnati, to name a few. Each city screened the film at 9:00 p.m. local time. The screening featured the live performances of over 20 renowned artists, including Afrojack, David Guetta, Benny Benassi, Duck Sauce, Will.i.Am, Deadmau5, and many other rave talents. There was also a special tribute to the late DJ AM, along with some footage from the controversial July 27 premiere at the Grauman's Chinese Theater.
