Las Vegas Wedding Legalities

Sophie S
Many couples opt for a Las Vegas wedding as there is no waiting period, no need for blood tests and other convenient features that allow couples to marry with ease in "Sin City." What other steps must couples undergo before they can legally marry in Las Vegas?

Are Two Witnesses Required at the Wedding?

Only one other witness other than the person performing the marriage ceremony is required when getting married in Las Vegas. There is no need to ask two of your family members or friends to stand in as witnesses, as only one will be required.

Do Divorcées Need to Produce a Divorce Certificate?

Previously married marriage applicants whose marriage ended in divorce must ensure that their divorce is final before they apply for a marriage licence to legally marry in Las Vegas. Divorcées must know the month, day and year, city and state that their divorce was finalised and it must be filed with the courts in the state or country where the divorce was granted. However, divorcées are not required to produce a copy of their divorce certificate. Just make sure you can provide the relevant dates of the dissolution of the marriage.

Can My Fiancé(e) Pick Up the Marriage Licence Alone?

Marriage laws require both the prospective bride and groom to be present at the Marriage Licence Bureau, located at 201 Clark Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89155, to obtain a marriage licence. A marriage licence will not be issued if either party is missing. That is why you should ensure that you are both present to obtain a marriage licence during office hours.

When Does My Marriage Licence Expire?

Once a marriage licence is issued from the Marriage Licence Bureau, couples have one year from the date of issue to get married. The marriage licence grants the bride and groom permission to marry in Nevada by a person licensed or authorised to perform marriage ceremonies.

Getting married in Nevada, and particularly in Las Vegas, is a lot simpler than in many other locations. Only one other witness other than the person performing your wedding is required and divorcées do not need to produce a copy of their divorce certificate. However, both parties must be present to obtain a marriage licence, which must be used to get married anywhere in Nevada within one year of issuance.
