Laser Hair Removal. Is it Right for You?

Shelly DeAngelo
Laser hair removal is one of the best cosmetic procedures I've ever invested in.

Laser hair removal is a practically pain free procedure. You feel slight snaps as the laser targets and incinerates the hair below the surface of the skin. The hair is vaporized below the skin, right at the root. The laser targets numerous hair follicles at a time, so its less time consuming than Electrolysis, which targets hair one at a time.

Laser hair removal works by running a laser across the skin. The laser beam is drawn to dark pigments, so the darker the hair the more effective it will be. The beam passes through the skin harmlessly and contacts the hair and follicle, and burns it with a blast of light. You will need to each area done 4-6 times for the hair removal to be permanent. After your treatment, your skin may be sensitive for a while, so your will want to avoid the sun for a few days.

You can have laser hair removal on any part of the body. Most laser spa are supervised by a medical doctor who supervises a trained licensed staff. There is no known danger in laser hair removal. It's not a radiation treatment, so it will not increase your chances of getting cancer.

The cost of laser hair removal will vary from locations, and still tends to be on the high side. The machine and laser equipment are expensive, so laser hair removal is not cheap. 8 years ago, when laser removal was relatively new, I paid over $5,000 to have my legs, under arms, bikini, and lip done. I haven't had to shave since then, and consider it money well spent. Prices have lowered somewhat since then, so consult with your local spa, and check for specials on package deals.
