The first step in seeking this type of treatment is to get a professional consultation with a skincare professional. Normally, your skincare professional or consultant would be the dermatologist or cosmetic consultant. It is very important to be screened first if you qualify as a potential candidate for laser skin therapy treatments, or not. In some cases, laser skin therapy can be quite dangerous and may cause irreversible damage.
Once it has been determined that you are a qualified candidate for undergoing laser skin therapy, you can begin shopping around for laser skin treatment centers and providers. It may be a good idea to ask your dermatologist or cosmetic consultant to recommend a list of referrals for where you can seek treatment. Because there is a plethora of different types of laser skin treatment services, it may be a good idea to list your skin beauty goals and expectations. This way, you and your laser treatment coordinator can put together a plan that best suits your beauty wants and needs.
Keep in mind that results do not happen overnight, so be prepared to set aside time for recovery. Typically, recovery time varies between the different types of laser skin treatments and how extensive the area being treated. Erbium lasers offer faster healing and recovery times, versus the CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) laser. Comfortability through the use of anesthetics helps for a more pleasant laser skin therapy experience.
Post op usually entails one or more of the following- special home care for treated areas, especially areas that require having to wear bandages to protect healing skin; use of special ointments and/or creams; and frequent daily washing of laser treated areas. Extra care is required in preventing the development of scabs, which will lead to permanent scarring. The goal to recovery time is to allow new skin cells to regenerate newer, fresher, unblemished layer of skin. In up to 6 months, skin tone will even out and all signs of redness will completely diminish.
The only drawbacks or contraindication to having the laser skin rejuvenation done is this- it may not be ideal for candidates with darker skin tones, as it is difficult to predict even skin tone once skin is finally rejuvenated. In addition, it is very important to follow the post-op care and instructions, or else there is a chance for unsightly scarring of the tissue. So remember to cleanse and hydrate your skin at all times- at least two to five times daily.
