Lash Out! Tips and Trends to Create Eye Envy

Candace Leigh Coulombe
The hottest hairy fashion trend isn't fur, faux or no, nor a purse-sized poodle. The latest area to be embraced by celebutantes is the lash line. Lush sets of lashes give girls a gorgeous upgrade. Plus, thanks to new technology, you can bat those sexy lashes from sun-up to sundown. Isn't it great to wake already glamorous?

Semi-Permanent Lashes

Luxe lashes aren't limited to Jessica, Lindsay and J. Lo. For fashionable women everywhere, individually applied lashes are quickly becoming a beauty necessity. The Lash Lounge in Colleyville is dedicated to the fab extensions. And, once you've treated yourself to a set of synthetic Xtreme Lashes, you can flirt for weeks sans mascara. Lashes are expertly applied one-by-one with a medical-grade adhesive. There's even a Lash Lover's Club to keep addicts well-kempt through the year. Swing into The Lash Lounge at 16 Village Lane, Suite 150, in Colleyville (817-514-9300), or visit thelashlounge.com for more information.

Heated Lash Curlers

If you just need a pick-me-up, a little curler can do the trick. Ladies who relied on using the hair dryer to warm conventional metal curlers have met with unhappily hot results. The Japonesque Heated Mini Lash Curler is a painless battery-operated device that curls stubborn lashes-all at once or a select few. Use it before or après mascara for eye-opening results.

Luxe Mascaras

Not quite ready to go faux? Choose a mascara with great technology. Blinc Kiss Me Mascara "tubes" each lash. Though it wands on the same, once Kiss Me is set, it forms tiny water-resistant tubes around each lash. The lightweight product effectively enhances lash volume and length. And, though it lasts two to three times longer than the traditional mascara, ease of removal makes Kiss Me truly gentle to sensitive lids.

DIY Faux Lashes

Kitchen beauticians and dexterous crafters may opt to apply their own falsies. Sephora Deluxe Lash Kit has all you need to do it yourself. The sexy strip lash set also include adhesive and a handy placement tool whose perfect curve presses the strip precisely on the lash line. The kit is also available with a silver glitter lash band for extra glamour. The antibacterial storage stands allow you to safely reuse for future parties.

Salon Tinting

Professional color is another easy way to wake up on the lovely side of the bed. You trust your tresses to experts, why not brows and lashes. The gentle tint service at The Woodhouse Day Spa gives you an "I was born with these super lashes" look. An easy an economical solution that's smudge-free. Visit The Woodhouse Day Spa at 7200 Bishop (The Shops at Legacy), Suite D-12, in Plano (214-473-9955) or check out their complete menu of spa services at woodhousespas.com.

A Lash is Born

Film director D.W. Griffith invented false eyelashes in 1916 for the leading lady of Intolerance. Griffith wished for actress Seena Owen's lashes to brush her cheeks. Perhaps it enhanced the silent star's beauty, for she met her future husband on the set!

Colorize

Like the LBD, the little black mascara is always right. However, brown or brown-black works well for blondes. Navy blue brightens blue eyes and deep purple makes brown eyes stand out.Or, start with basic falsies, then add a highlight of hazel-, blue- or green-tinted individual lashes.

Prime Time

Pump up your lashes with a pre-coat. Primers can thicken and separate lashes, making even the most vanilla mascaras more potent.

If I make the lashes dark
And the eyes more bright
And the lips more scarlet,
Or ask if all be right
From mirror after mirror,
No vanity's displayed:
I'm looking for the face I had
Before the world was made.

With my first child all I was concerned about was should I or shouldn't I wear my fake lashes in delivery...finally decided no-somehow I overlooked the pain making me not care what was on my face, eyes, or anything else
