Lasik Eye Surgery

Ryan
Lasik eye surgery is a procedure that reduces that a person's need for corrective lenses. With so many more people getting this procedure done this surgery has become very common.

People have lasik eye surgery done when they have a problem with their vision. There are three different types of errors a person can have. They are myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Myopia is commonly called nearsightedness. Myopia is when a person has problems seeing distant objects clearly. Hyperopia is also called farsightedness. Hyperopia is when a person has problems seeing near objects clearly. Astigmatism is a distortion of an image that is caused by irregularities in the cornea or lens of the eye.

Lasik surgery is not for everyone. It is not for you if:

There is a chance for complications, so if you do not like to take chance it might not be for you.

Certain jobs do not allow for these types of procedures. Check with your employer before having any procedure done.

Lasik surgery is not cheap.

People in their early twenties have hormones that are changing due to disease, pregnancy, or take medication that can cause a change in vision.

If you are active in sports in which you receive blows to the face or eye.

Have a discussion with your doctor on precautions so they know your history. Things that they will need to know is if you have had shingles around your eye, glaucoma, any eye diseases, eye injuries or any previous eye surgeries. Other things to know about include: blepharitis, large pupils, thin corneas, or dry eyes.

What can go wrong with this procedure? Some people have lost vision that cannot be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, or surgery. Glare, halos, or double vision can affect your night time vision. There is a chance that you might still need to wear glasses or contacts after having the surgery. However, the prescription might change. Your eyes might not be able to stay as moist as they need to.

The actual surgery takes less than 30 minutes. Numbing drops are used in your eye and the area around your eye is cleaned. A lid speculum is used to hold open your eyelids. A flap is then cut on your cornea. The flap will be pulled back and the exposed tissue will be dried. After this you will have to stare at a light for 60 seconds while the laser is being used to correct your vision.

The procedure can cost $3,000 or more. If you find some that are extremely cheap then I would not recommend getting it done by that person. I would be a little skeptical with a pretty cheap lasik surgery. I know a few people that have had this procedure done and all of them had good results. One of the people that I know that had lasik paid $4,000 and is a walking advertisement for lasik now. This person has not had any problems with their eyes since having the surgery done. If you are considering this procedure talk to your doctor to find out if it is right for you.
