Our advanced technology has given us many advances in the medical field, but none more appreciated than restoring one's vision back to near perfect state. I am talking about Lasik Eye Surgery. I am sure that I am not the only one that is overly thrilled of this discovery. Just the thought of seeing better without the need of contacts or glasses is just the find of the century for me.

Although thrilling and exciting, the idea of getting surgery on your eyes, such an important, sensitive, and vital part of your body, is more than a little scary. It is a huge step and must be considered as such.

When considering getting Lasik the pros and cons of the surgery must be addressed beforehand. First your eye physician must approve you as a good candidate for this surgery. This means that you do not have any health issues, eye diseases, or problems that could result in complications during or after the surgery.

The pros, of course are the obvious, much better eyesight and possibly being able to completely see without glasses or contacts. This can also save you thousands over your lifetime since you will no longer need to purchase contacts or glasses, and will not have to undergo costly contact fitting exams.

The cons of Lasik Eye Correction would be the risk of damaging your eyesight and even potentially losing it. This could happen due to a mistake by the performing physician, unknown underlying health issues, or due to complications afterwards. The risk is real and should be completely understood before going any further.

After you have been through all the steps and have been scheduled for surgery, then doctor may ask you to refrain from certain things such as smoking. You will also have to keep your contacts out for at least a week prior to the surgery.

On surgery day, you may feel very nervous yet excited. Relax, if you've made it that far then the eye surgeon has put you through the ringer already and has qualified you as a good candidate. Now you are ready for the prep and procedure. Since Lasik surgery is performed on patients while they are conscious and not completely sedated, this may alert you. It should not be a worry because Lasik is virtually painless. Before the procedure, the Lasik surgeon applies numbing drops into your eyes. You may feel a slight pressure when the procedure is being performed, but other than this is painless.

Lasik is an outpatient procedure and only takes around ten to fifteen seconds per eye. After this is finished, you will notice the drastic change in your eyesight, for the better. Although you can see much better already, you are still not out of the danger zone. Most problems that arise are due to complications after the procedure. The surgeon will provide you with eye protectors to wear for a while, and instructions on how to care for your eyes until they are completely healed.

After this is over, you should have much better eyesight and can normally resume your lifestyle. You will need to come back to your eye doctor for check ups.

Before undergoing any procedure, make sure you understand everything in complete detail. When choosing a Lasik Eye Surgeon, check to make sure he is board certified and that there are not any complaints logged against him or his clinic.
