It is my last day in Iraq.
I will try not to look back.
I will always will.
Tonight is so still.
We came and we fought.
We protected and we sought.
A war is meant to be won.
Can we truly say we have won this one?
Time will only tell.
Iraq, I wish you well.
Our prayers will always be with you.
We want peace, at least, I do.
In my heart, not political.
I pray for survival.
The innocent.
The spent.
The war torn victims cry.
I have tried.
Many of us have died.
Never to remind.
It is a cross we all bear.
You know we truly care.
Beyond the money and crime.
We pray for a forever peaceful time.
We never meant to harm.
God struggles to keep us all warm.
From the US hearts, we pray.
You will see a lasting peaceful day.
So many lives lost.
We all paid the cost.
The true of soul.
In God's arms, to hold.
For all, freedom.
We pray this will come.
For you, liberty.
All deserve to be free.
God bless the days those will miss.
Fighting for this.
Never give up.
When is enough just enough?
I leave with my very life.
And my belief for what is right.
Always praying.
For those remaining.

Very nice.
inspiring
Wow! So powerfully honest and raw. The cost was certainly high on this one, and only time will tell if the battle was truly won. Merry Christmas!
Very nicely put, Briggette. We could never accumulate enough political or material gain to equal the lives lost there-no matter how long we stayed. I, for one, am glad to see it finally come to an end.
