Last Minute Christmas Gifts to Crochet

Easy Crochet Projects for Last Minute Gift Giving

Marie Anne St. Jean
If you can do simple crochet stitches, you can easily complete several Christmas gifts in a short amount of time. Money is tight for most everyone and the gift of a handmade item is not only frugal, but makes the gift more personal. I don't know anyone who wouldn't be delighted to find a homemade gift under the tree that was crocheted especially with them in mind.

Last Minute Crochet Christmas Gift - Scarf

A simple gift that is good for adults and children alike is a hand crocheted scarf. A scarf is a simple project that can be completed in just a few hours if using an easy pattern that works up quickly. If you know the recipient's favorite color or the color of their coat, it's easy enough to match or coordinate a color of yarn to crochet a fashion accessory that's as warm as it is pretty.

The Bumpy Scarf as shown here is done in three coordinating colors, but can also be made with two. The striped effect is very pretty and color choices are endless - be creative! It's a good way to use up small amounts of yarn left over from other projects.

What young lady wouldn't love ruffles? The Easy Ruffle Scarf as shown here can be made quickly, so you could make several to coordinate with her favorite sweaters. Make it long enough to wrap several times around her neck to keep out the chill.

This pattern for an Easy, Plain and Simple Scarf is made from a very basic crochet stitch and looks great as a full length scarf or as a smaller neck warmer. Pick bright yarn colors for kids or teens, or neutral colors for the lady or man in your life. This scarf would look nice tucked into a businessman's overcoat, or draped around the shoulders of a classic camel coat.

Last Minute Crochet Christmas Gift - Dishcloth

I don't know any women that don't love crocheted dishcloths. Dishcloths are one of the quickest gifts to crochet and giving something useful is always a hit. There are many ways you can tie in a homemade dishcloth to a gift basket filled with related items. I like to use them as washcloths too, so fill a basket with other items to pamper that special lady.

This Quick and Easy Crochet Dishcloth works up in a jiffy with a simple crochet stitch. Another dishcloth with a more whimsical pattern is the Spiral Dishcloth - perfect to use up smaller amounts of cotton yarn. Go crazy with the colors and see just how outlandish they turn out! Another favorite is this Handmade Crocheted Dishcloth.

Last Minute Crochet Christmas Gift - Miscellaneous

Slippers are always welcome at this time of year. This Quick and Easy Slipper Pattern is simpler than most and can be completed quickly by even a beginner - no increasing, decreasing or sewing involved.

A bookmark may be a small item, but a handmade bookmark that you crochet is likely to be cherished by your friends who love to read. The Iced Mint Thread Crochet Bookmark is one example of a bookmark that works up quickly. Make a stack of them to have on hand for last minute gift-giving. If giving a book as a gift, make it more special by including a handmade bookmark with it.

An eyeglass case is a useful gift for anyone that wears glasses or sunglasses. I waste a lot of money on sunglasses each year because I toss them into my purse where they get scratched easily. This Crochet Glasses Case would solve that problem nicely.

There are many more items that can be crocheted for last minute gifts at Christmas or other occasions. The possibilities are endless, but this list should get you started with other ideas of your own.
