Gift Cards. The invention of the gift card is the perfect gift for the last minute shopper. It is also a very considerate gift for so many people, because often we know about someone's interests but we just aren't sure what to get them. We know that Dad is into home improvement or fishing, but we don't quite know what he would like when we get into the store. So he winds up returning what we got him, or worse he keeps what we bought him - but never uses it, and that's a real shame. The best bet for gift cards is to have a good idea of which stores your Dad likes or what his interests are and what the best stores are for those interests are. If you are truly in doubt, you can always get a pre-paid American Express gift card, which can be used anywhere.
Restaurant or Entertainment Gift Certificate. This is another great idea. Giving someone a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant, or tickets to an upcoming show. This is a guaranteed good time that is coming up and something to look forward to. Again the key to this is knowing what your Dad likes. If he likes classical music, don't purchase him jazz tickets. Follow his interests and his likes. You'll be sure to come up with a real winner that way. Remember the restaurants that he has liked to take you in the past; chances are those are some of his favorites.
DVDs. There are DVDs for so many different shows, movies and documentaries now. You can find old movies, old shows, and entire series on DVD at this point. This can be a great gift idea. Make sure your Dad has a DVD player (some Dads are admittedly low-tech), or perhaps the DVD player would actually be a great gift idea!
Museum Membership. If your Dad is interested in history and the arts, this could be a real winner. A museum membership can be obtained simply by calling the membership or development office, and they will send out paperwork. The person who gets membership gets free admission to the museum and in some cases; admission to special lectures and information about other programming (depends on the museum).
Baby His Car. Many Dads are into their cars. If you can borrow his keys, you could get his car washed, waxed and the inside of the car washed and vacuumed. Or if you are feeling really flush, get the car detailed. Dad would certainly appreciate this special care.
Gadgets. Some Dads are really into gadgets. If you have a gadgetry Dad then get him a new toy or accessories for his current accessories. There is always, always a new toy out there that he would appreciate if he is into the gadgetry world.
Gourmet Food. A nice idea for a gift is getting Dad some type of gourmet food item. There is Omaha Steaks, where you can order burgers and steaks in different special packages. Or you could order some other type of gourmet food item, like a box of fruit or a large tin of flavored popcorn. There are so many choices!
