Last Minute Gift Ideas

Creative and Cheap

Lori Piper
Here is it... What you attempted so hard to refrain from happening has, in fact, happened. You are in dire need of a few last minute gifts!

What to do? Work and family obligations will keep you from shopping leisurely to discover the perfect gift for your Aunt Zelda and her new beau whom you have not seen in years.

If you went on-line to do last minute shopping, the shipping charges will be outrageous and there is no for sure guarantee the gift will arrive on time.

There is no need to fret. Last minute gifts can, often times, be the most creative.

Last minute gift ideas- a basket full of ideas

Do you have an extra basket lying around? Line it with some fabric remnants or nice table linen or dish towel. Fill with a bottle of wine and some cheese. Instant present. Most of us have such items in our home. For those of us that do not Wal Mart is our friend and they are open twenty four hours.

Last minute gift ideas- it is in the mail

Email that is. Have you realized that you actually forgot someone on your list? Or did someone neglect to mention so and so needed a gift until just now? Again, no need to panic. If the recipient lives out of town or you will be out of town this holiday, send a virtual e -certificate via email.

Last minute gift ideas- movies are a treat

Stop off at your local video rental store on your way home. Pick up three rental certificates and some movie sized candy treats (also available at your local dollar stores). Take home and put in a oversize plastic bowl with a bag or two of microwave popcorn. Instant movie night. And it is a great gift.

Last minute gift ideas- think in hues

Not sure what to get your best friend's sister who will also be joining in the holiday festivities this year? Grab a bag and fill it with little items of her favorite color. Think pink- nail polish and lipsticks. Pens and notepads. Whatever you have on hand will work. Include a short rhyme and that will win over anyone.

Last minute gifts- snacks are us

I have a friend who likes chips. Salt and salsa is her favorite combination. I filled a gift bag with snack size bags of chips along with a jar of salsa. Instant gift.

The most important aspect to remember this time of year... it is the thought that counts. If the intention is well thought then the gift will be sure to please. Let your imagination soar... through your pantry and closets at least.
