Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas for Dogs

Sophia S. Mark
There are several easy, last minute costumes that you can throw together for your dog on Halloween day. Here are some of my favorite costumes for dogs of every size.

Sheriff
A sheriff costume is a great option for a dog of every size because it requires very little in the way of a costume and even if you only have the bare bones of a costume, everyone will recognize it for what it is. The two basic parts of the costume consist of a bandanna and a Sheriff's badge. Find a red bandanna that best fits your pet, you can cut up a larger bandanna to fit a small dog and tie around the neck. Attach the Sheriff's badge near the neck of the bandanna or if you can find a vest or solid colored tee shirt that is fitted to your dog to attach the star to, that works well too.

Beauty Queen
If your pooch is female, a Beauty Queen is a fun and super easy costume to accomplish in just a few minutes. The only part of the costume that you will have to find the perfect size for in a pet or toy store is a tiara or crown that is small or large enough to sit atop your dog's head. Once you have the tiara, add a white beauty queen sash around one shoulder and the body of your dog.

Twister
Last year I spotted a really fun and easy to put together costume on a small child that can just as easily be gone on a dog. Take a plain white dog tee and cut out several circles in blue, green, red and yellow paper, cloth or even napkins. Attach the circles to the white tee in straight rows so that it resembles a Twister mat.

Flower Bouquet
Another really cute idea for dogs of either sex is to dress them up as a bouquet of flowers, or even a meadow of flowers. Accomplish this costume by attaching several silk flowers to the collar of your pet, or attach them to a shirt that you purchase for your pet. You can do this with the stems of the flowers still attached or just the flower heads, but either way try getting creative and bunch all different types of flowers together with a little green foliage.
