Last Minute Movie Themed Games for a Party

Fun Movie party games can be setup at a moment's notice without spending a lot of money on supplies. Here are last minute games for a party that make use of materials that can be found around the house.

Genre Themed A to Z Trivia Challenge

Provide each guest with an index card or sheet of 8x11 inch paper and one ink pen or pencil. Instruct all guests to write the alphabet in a vertical list on the far left or right side of their papers to make a game sheet. Instruct all guests to list a movie title that begins with a letter that matches one of their alphabet letters until they have a complete list from A to Z. These movie titles should also match the genre that you chose for this last minute party game. "Salt" starring Angelina Jolie would be a correct answer for the letter "S" in this game if your selected genre is action movies, whereas "Shrek" would be incorrect since it is categorized as an animated film.

Create a sense of urgency while playing this A to Z trivia game by requiring guests to complete their game sheet within a short time frame. The guest who has the most correct answers once the timer is up wins this game, even if he or she did not fill in matching titles for all alphabet letters. The winner can also be selected by giving a prize to the first guest who lists correct movie title matches for the entire alphabet during the party.

Movie Plot Slam

Put of twist on poetry slams like those depicted in "Slam" and "SlamNation" to host a last minute movie party game that encourages guests to entertain each other. Divide guests into groups of three or more if it is a large party. Write one movie title each on a set of index cards and then fold them into a small square. Pile your movie title squares into a large bowl, tote bag or stock pot. Instruct each group to send one of their players to pull one of the squares out of the pile until all groups have one movie title card.

Give groups a set time frame to create a short poem that describes the entire plot of the movie title on their card. The collaborative nature of this game can be used as an icebreaker activity for parties. Group settings are also beneficial for this last minute party game because there is no guarantee that every guest is familiar with the movie title on their group's card. Another group member who did watch the film that was selected can help to fill in details if necessary. Instruct each group to select a member player to recite their poem out loud after the time for writing round is up. Provide prizes to each group based on the level of creativity, humor or accuracy of their poem.
