Last Minute Valentine's Day Gifts for Your Wife

Wow Her with Thoughtfulness!

Patricia Sicilia
So, you're just about to crack open a beer and settle down to enjoy the Superbowl when you realize that Valentine's Day is two weeks away, and you have nothing for your wife! After running to the store for a card before they run out or you forget, you sit and ponder on a proper Valentine's Day gift for your wife. Women are funny about these things, you know. A new toaster just won't do it.

Last minute Valentine Gifts for your wife don't necessarily have to be expensive, or even material objects. Sometimes scrubbing the kitchen floor without being asked will get you more appreciation than you ever dreamed. Here are five suggestions for last minute Valentine's Day Gifts for Your Wife.

Last Minute Valentine's Day Gift for Your Wife No. 1: Clean the House: Send your wife out on an afternoon of shopping or visiting, or take advantage of one of her planned activities away from home to clean the bathroom, scrub the kitchen floor, and change the sheets. If you have kids, get them to help out as well by cleaning their rooms, dusting, vacuuming and washing the woodwork and floors in the living areas and dining room. Your Valentine will swoon when she returns home to a spotless and shiny house.

Last Minute Valentine's Day Gift for Your Wife No. 2: Surprise Romantic Dinner at Home: Set the dining room table (the chandelier above which you have cleaned) with candles, the good linen, good china and good silver. (Remove the lace tablecloth, these are NOT for eating on.) If you're brave and proficient enough, prepare her favorite meal. If not, order in or pick up dinner from her favorite restaurant. Many restaurants, even gourmet establishments, will prepare food for take-out nowadays. Make sure to ask the restaurant how to keep it warm without ruining it.

Last Minute Valentine's Day Gift for Your Wife No. 3: A Night Out With the Girls: Does your wife have a favorite country singer that you just don't care to watch her drool over? Does she like to antique or attend things like Flower Shows and art exhibits? Chalk it up as a Valentine's Day Gift and get tickets or draw up an IOU for any of her favorite activities, for two. Wrap in a pretty heart shaped box, and tell her to take a friend. (NOT, however, on Valentine's Day, of course, you deserve some special "thank you" attention for your thoughtfulness.)

Last Minute Valentine's Day Gift for Your Wife No. 4: Flowers, Candy and Champagne: Yes, I know it's a cliché, but women never tire of a dozen red roses and a heart-shaped box of candy. And not that drugstore junk, get the GOOD stuff! For your edification gentlemen -- Godiva and Fanny May buttercreams are a good bet. Go online for locations of stores that sell Godiva and Fanny May. Or, there may be a candy store in your area that has a good reputation. Chocolate covered strawberries are luscious dipped in Champagne. Ask around, perhaps someone you know makes them, or knows someone who does. Unless your wife is a connoisseur of champagne, just get something decent that won't break the bank.

Last Minute Valentine's Day Gift for Your Wife No. 5: Promise Certificates: Finally, create some "Promise Certificates" for services to be rendered, such as back or foot rubs, or more private endeavors. Do the two of you have divergent tastes in movies or food? Promise Certificates for a night at the restaurant and movie of her choice will get the two of you out on a real date, even if you hate Chinese food and chick flicks. Promise to cook dinner once a month, it doesn't have to be fancy, as long as you do all the cooking and cleaning up. You can hand-make these certificates or create them on the computer.

Happy Valentine's Day to All.

I honestly never do get tired of roses!! My guy broke his arm last year right before Valentine's Day, so I didn't get anything. Can't wait to see what happens this year!!

My ex waited until Valentine's Day, then ran to the store to find what was left. For him it was a matter of obligation, not desire. I would have loved it if he had given it some thought. Hopefully loving husbands reading this article will realize that the thought given to the gift is even more important than the gift itself.
