Latest Bone Marrow Drive for Kyle Dean Smith Brings Out the Whole County

Yesterday's bone marrow drive to benefit 10 year old Kyle Dean Smith of Elkhorn City, KY. who is battling an aggressive form of Leukemia (January 31, 2009) was the greatest sucess yet.

What was advertised as the second drive to benefit Smith was actually the fourth, after one previous drive at the Elkorn City Elementary School and two at the Pike County Jailhouse in Pikeville, KY. It seems as though it will be far from the last as people all across the state are expressing the desire to step forward as a possible match.

A total of 158 tests were taken between the three drives at the jailhouse and the latest one at the school. This is added to the 85 that were sent off to the Clevend Clinic for analyses earlier this week after the initial drive at the school.

The turnout at the school alone was amazing yesterday. People came from all over the county, including the Phelps area, Jenkins, and even Norton, Va. Several of those who came asked to be tutored in the process so that they could set up drives in the areas where they lived. Smith's family was all to happy to comply since any help is greatly appreciated.

People as far away as Middlesboro, KY. are asking for drives to be set up in their areas. The workers at the Pikeville Medical Center are also asking for a drive.

As this gains momentum, the family are stunned and delighted by the response.
