Star Trek 11 (yet to be titled) is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2008. JJ Abrams has signed on to direct. Abram's been responsible for such hits as Alias and Lost. According to thetrekreport.com the writers have described this film as "a starship adventure". This film will only include characters from the original television series. The plot of the film is mostly unknown but based on the casting I think it is safe to assume that this film will take place when the crew of the USS Enterprise were young adults and cover a large space of time.
The Cast
Captain James Kirk- There is no definitive answer at this time on who will portray Captain Kirk on the big screen. Currently the rumor is that Christopher Pike will take the lead. The only film I can remember seeing Pike in was the Princess Diaries 2. He played the dashing villain/slash love interest. William Shatner is expected to return as the older Captain Kirk.
Mr. Spock- Zachary Quinto will portray young Mr. Spock. Although Quinto has done extensive television work he is best known for his role as Sylar in the hit show Heroes. Leonard Nimoy will return to reprise his role of an older Mr. Spock.
Dr. Leonard McCoy- has yet to be cast.
Lt. Hikaru Sulu- John Cho will portray young Mr. Sulu. John Cho is best known for his work in Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle and the MILF guy from the American Pie movies.
Montgomery Scott- Simon Pegg has just signed on to play the part of chief engineer, and third in command of the USS Enterprise Mr. Scott. Simon Pegg is best known for his comedic and writing skills in such films as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
Pavel Chekov- Russian born actor Anton Yelchin will portray Pavel Chekov on the big screen. Anton Yelchin is only 18 years old and was last seen being kidnapped and murder by Justin Timberlake and company in Alpha Dog.
Uhura- The beautiful Zoe Saldana will star as Uhura, the chief communications officer. Zoe Saldana has acted in a few films and a handful of television shows. She is most recognizable as Anna-Maria the lone female pirate onboard the Black Pearl in Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.
Nero- Nero is the villain of the newest Star Trek film. Not much is known about this character except that he will be played by Australian actor Eric Bana. Bana is best known for his work in The Incredible Hulk and Chopper.

Post a CommentAs a writer who wrote episodes for Star Trek: Next Generation & Deep Space Nine, I can't wait for the new movie. I actually published an interview today with the film's set designer Dawn Brown. She was very generous in her comments and information.
This will be interesting.
Great article. I can't wait until the movie comes out.
I was shocked by the Simon Pegg pick. He's funny...but Scottie? To quote the original Scottie, "Captain, I think it's gonna blow!"
I think this is going to be a great way to revamp this franchise...I heard on Howard Stern today that Chris kelin was getting the Kirk role
