Mark Teixiera traded to the Braves
Mark Teixiera has been traded to the Braves pending a review of the medical records of the players involved. The Rangers will receive Jarrod Saltalamacchia and minor leaguers in return for Teixiera.
Troy Glaus on the move
With the Angels losing out on Mark Teixiera, they may set their sights on a former Angel, Troy Glaus. It has been reported that Glaus would welcome a trade back to the west coast.
Yankees in pursuit of Gagne
The Yankees are expressing some serious interest in Eric Gagne. With a limited no-trade clause Gagne can block a trade to certain teams, but the Yankees are not one of them. Gagne will have to forfeit $3.5 million in incentives if he is traded to the Yankees and he does not close.
Dye to the Red Sox?
The White Sox and the Red Sox are still holding discussions about sending the right fielder to Boston. They two sides have not agreed on a price and it is likely that the White Sox may keep him and sign him to an extension after the deadline.
Mariners seeking relief
The Mariners are interested in two Devil Rays relievers, Dan Wheeler, just acquired from the Astros, and Al Reyes.
Padres talking to Houston
The San Diego Padres are in discussions with the Houston Astros about adding one of their infielders. The Padres like Mark Loretta, Mike Lamb and Morgan Ensberg, who was designated for assigment. The Padres need a bat and Loretta would be their first choice.
Mets looking for pitching
The Mets are looking closely at acquiring the White Sox Jon Garland and the Athletics Joe Blanton. Up until this point the teams' asking prices were too high, but they may come down as the deadline nears.
Braves looking at Dotel
The Atlanta Braves were reportedly close to a deal to bring Octavio Dotel to Atlanta, but those reports might have been premature. The Braves do have interest in Dotel, but it is being reported that they cannot move on him until the Teixiera deal is made.
Contreras likely staying
It does not look as if the White Sox will find a taker for Contreras and his hefty ERA and contract.
Interest in Farnsworth Waning
Farnsworth was rumored to be a target of the Detroit Tigers, but Sunday's shenanigans may have made the Tigers think twice about taking the shaky reliever. He may be staying in New York after all.
