Latex Movie Review: Girl in 3D

Girl in 3D may sound like yet another movie released as part of the current 3D movie trend. But don't let the title fool you. It is the story about a wannabe movie star named Vicky ( Bevin Tucker ) who after realizing her gangster boyfriend/manager Tony has done nothing but send her on auditions to porn films steals a couple grand of his money and runs away. Before she can even get out of her apartment building Tony gives chase and Vicky takes refuge in the apartment of a cross-dressing prostitute named Randy ( Bijoux Deluxe ) the number which is 3D. Randy allows her to hide in his closet while he services a client, a crazy pervert named Finch ( Michael J Aronin ). When Finch discovers Vicky hiding in the closet he decided that fate wanted him to find her. After Vicky finally flees the building and drives out of town Finch follows and catches up with her, making her an offer that could earn her 50 grand. Finch had noticed that Vicky was wearing a t-shirt of a Goth rock star named Stu, and he just happens to be working for Stu's manager ( Yareli Arizmendi ) who asked him to find a blond girl who would be willing to be Stu's sex slave for a month. Although Vicky agrees to this, she is practically kidnapped into the agreement as Finch keeps her in a locked car all the way back to Los Angeles. There she is tied up and carried kicking and screaming into Stu's mansion and shackled in his private dungeon. Stu ( played by real life underground rocker Coyote Shivers ) is both nuts and constantly ingesting handfuls of drugs. He immediately begins torturing Vicky, only moments after she tells him she is his biggest fan.

Girl in 3D is basically an overly pretentious bondage movie. Throughout the film to remind you that this is suppose to be art and not porn there are plenty of self indulgent edits with flashes from earlier scenes, rapid jump cuts or sped up footage. And between each scene there is a caption such as the statistics on how many aspiring actresses are in Hollywood or how many women are reported missing each year. The films director is Luis Airi who previously had a career as a music video director ( the most notable of these being EDN-OZN's AEIOU - Sometimes Y ) and had directed the MTV Rock the Vote spots. From there he spent another decade directing short movies shown at film festivals. Girl in 3D represents his first commercial feature film. Going through the film festival circuit it has won many awards and has had critical acclaim. Yet it has has an equal amount of bad reviews and had not been picked up for distribution aside from home video ( and even then only a low number of DVDs were printed in the United States ). I myself fall into the camp that did not find the film funny. Airi's idea of humor is a pervert dancing with a blow up sex doll, a old record executive peeing his pants during a meeting and characters using fake accents. If the kidnapping and torture of Vicky was suppose to be funny then that humor was lost on me.

The movie falls completely apart during the third act. What was a minor B plot, an executive at Stu's record company making a bet that Stu will be able to get over his writers block and record a new song by Friday, turns ugly when the same executive hires Finch to kill Stu and pin the crime on Vicky in order to get out of the bet. Simultaneously Vicky's boyfriend shows up at Stu's mansion with gun in hand demanding she be turned over to him. This while Vicky has apparently bonded with Stu who now believes she is the Virgin Mary. As a deliberate indie art movie Girl in 3D is something you will either love or hate. A movie to be watched at your own risk.

THE SCENE:
How much you enjoy this movie depends on your tolerance to watching a crying girl tied up and mildly tortured. No blood is drawn, but it is still a bit rough and sharp implements are seen on Stu's table. The blond Bevin Tucker in her so far only movie role is aged about 20 going on 40 with no hint on the IMDB as to her real age. She has a pretty face and a decent enough body to pull off her role. Every outfit she wears is of interest, beginning at 5 minutes into the movie where she is wearing tight black leather pants with red flame decor at the hem and a white t-shirt which changes from scene to scene but mainly has a picture of Stu. At 13 minutes she adds a black leather jacket and leather cowboy hat to this ensemble. At 21 minutes she has accompanied the Finch character to a hotel room where he instructs her to put on what is clearly a latex outfit. We do not see the full outfit until 23 minutes, which is a black latex gown with bustier top and a 1950's era Catwoman rubber mask which she thankfully removes. After being bound and carried into Stu's mansion she is stripped, washed in a shower, and put into a catsuit which Stu's assistants immediately rub down with oil. This takes place at 28 minutes into the movie, but once again you have to wait a few minutes to see the entire outfit which includes ballet boots. The catsuit is open at her rear permanently exposing her behind. After a session of bondage and torture she is seen again at 41 minutes where while still wearing the catsuit she attempts an escape, and is seen again at 48 minutes once again bound up. At 51 minutes Stu has put her in a black latex dress that is split entirely up the side to her chest with metal clasps at her waist and allows her to expose her entire legs with high heel shoes. At 55 minutes she is back in the catsuit for another round of torture, this time Stu giving her a colonic, followed by Stu covering he face and head with a leather mask at 58 minutes. At 105 minutes and for the rest of the movie she is wearing another white t-shirt and black latex paper cut pants that expose plenty of skin.
