Latex Movie Review: Razor Blade Smile

Razor Blade Smile is one of those movies that had a good premise but was very poorly executed. Bad script, bad cinematography, bad directing, and acting that ranges from dull to inappropriate and over the top. This is a shame because it's basic story has an unexpected twist that if done in a better made film could have put this movies among the classics in the genre. Writer and director Jake West is responsible for this shot on video and transferred to film mess. About the only thing noteworthy about this movie is the casting of cult B movie scream queen Eileen Daly as the lead character. She plays Lilith Silver, a woman who in ( what appears to be ) the 1700's is unwillingly transformed into a vampire by another named Sethane Blake ( Christopher Adamson ). While at first Lilith is horrified to have been turned into what she calls "a monster", when the movie flash forwards to modern times she has fully embraced the lifestyle and has no problem killing her victims, even justifying it in her own mind because her victims in their last moments feel the utmost erotic pleasure.

Out of boredom Lilith has become a hit woman, known only as The Angel of Death. After killing her assignments the usual vampire way by sucking them dry she covers up the evidence by shooting their body multiple times ending with a shot to the neck wound. No one suspects that the mysterious Angel of Death is a vampire until Inspector Price of Scotland Yard ( Jonathan Coote ) discovers what he believes is evidence, and then becomes obsessed with finding her and proving she is one of the undead. Jake West can not seem to decide what sort of movie he wants. The plot of the movie allows for plenty of poorly executed John Woo style shootouts, but is also filled with plenty of Wong Kar-Wai inspired art house scenes of Lilith's nightlife, sexual encounters and downtime. The end result is a public access grade movie that is barely watchable. Which, once again, is a shame based on West's actual plot which has one hell of a twist at the end. He was leading up to a great story. It is just a shame he was not talented enough to deliver on the rest of the film.

THE SCENE:
If what you are looking for is Eileen Daly in latex then this is your film, provided you don't mind the thick vampire fangs. The most notable of her outfits is a tight black latex catsuit combined with black calf high laced up leather boots, black leather gloves and a thin silver belt. It is first seen at 8 minutes in a scene where she pulls the outfit on. 11 minutes begins a prolonged scene where she sneaks into a house, assassinates a man in his bathtub, then takes out his bodyguards as she makes her escape. At 47 minutes the catsuit is seen again during a flashback to the bathtub scene. At 1 hour 7 minutes she puts on the outfit again, adding a silver patent leather raincoat, and again at 1 hour 22 minutes while wearing a tiger print coat over it (she wears the coat throughout the film occasionally covering up various latex outfits). Finally, there is a Easter egg scene following the ending credits where Eileen rises up out of a bathtub in the catsuit to surprise attack another victim. Eileen wears several other latex outfits during the film. The first is what appears to be a light blue latex dress that is only seen from the waist up. She is seen in it again at 15 minutes combined with a fur wrap. She wears a purple latex dress with a silver metallic corset beginning at 34 minutes, and an even better view of the outfit during a lesbian sex scene at 37 minutes, during which the dress is stripped off her so you can see a black leather bikini she wore beneath. Finally, the outfit is seen again at 45 minutes in the daylight so that you can see it in it's natural colors. At 44 minutes during a dream sequence she is wearing another latex dress which is either blue or grayish. And at 50 minutes she wears a tight black latex dress. Eileen is not the only girl to wear latex during the film. Adamson has two female body guards first seen wearing matching light purple latex dresses with black straps at 17 minutes, and later at 1 hour 22 minutes wearing matching black outfits that consist of a leather corset, satin bra, tight latex pants and biker jackets. An at 31 minutes Adamson has an Asian girl lying on his desk, barely awake as he empties her of blood, wearing a black leather catsuit.
