Latex Movie Review: Red Blooded American Girl II

1990's Red Blooded American Girl was a direct to video vampire film that mostly gained bad reviews. It's director, David Blyth, graduated to directing episodes of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, making a return to direct to video movies in 1997 with a film with the working title Hit & Run. Produced by the same company as his previous vampire film, Hit & Run was released under the title Red Blooded American Girl II, despite the fact that it had nothing to do with the first movie and had no vampires at all. But this is nothing new for the direct to video market where franchises are made with sequels by name only. Rental outlets like Netflix and Blockbuster buy up sequels assuming that they would not exist unless a demand existed. The plot for this "sequel" has preppy Trent Colbert ( Kristoffer Ryan Winters ) driving home from collage for thanksgiving with his overbearing parents when he ends up rescuing a prostitute named Miya from being raped by a couple of truck drivers. In the process he bumps into one of the truckers with his car and speeds off, committing the crime of hit and run even though the truck driver is not injured. Because of this Miya convinces Trent that he can not call the police. So instead he agrees to allow Miya to be his traveling partner, which seems like a good idea at first when she gives him what seems to be free sex once they reach a motel. But as she begins to show signs that she herself is dangerously crazy, and gets her hands on a gun which inevitably leads to murder and a shootout with a pursuing state police car, Trent finds himself being forced to take her to his parents house for thanksgiving dinner.

Red Blooded American Girl II is a very unpleasant movie to watch, full of characters that are either a combination of creepy and despicable, or like Trent are assh***s. It takes place in one of those mythical bad movie states where there seems to be only one single highway which allows truck drivers to track down fleeing vehicles, and is seemingly patrolled by the same two state police who investigate every crime scene in the hundred or so miles that Trent and Miya travel through. Unpleasant situations are passed off as entertainment, such as a revelation of incest near the end of the movie. Much like other cheapo direct to video productions well known actors show up in brief roles that probably took them only a couple of hours to shoot, just so that the cast has recognizable names. In the original release David Keith was given star billing, although his part as Trent's dad is only a few minutes long and does not take place until the end of the movie. Burt Young plays the rapist truck driver who is obsessed with tracking down Miya after she gets away, and who's combined screen time is about ten minutes at best. The video was later re-released under the title Hot Blooded giving Kari Salin top billing for the role of the prostitute. She is actually actress and one time MTV game show hostess Kari Wuhrer who had the good sense to demand a pseudonym billing in the credits so that she could distance herself from the movie, but that did not stop the distributor from plastering her name on the box.

THE SCENE:
While this is a disturbing film to watch, it does have one of the best fetish outfits ever put on film. Kari Wuhrer wears a stunning vinyl ensemble consisting of ( from top to bottom ) black leather high heeled boots, ultra tight black vinyl pants, black vinyl biker jacket with a combo vinyl and silver metallic bra underneath, a black choker and to complete the outfit a black vinyl sling bag. The first time you see her in the outfit is 2 minutes into the movie, although you may be put off by the image of a shirtless Burt Young grabbing her and choking her into unconsciousness. Kari remains in the outfit for the next fifteen minutes with very few cut away scenes to worry about. Much of this screen time is her as a passenger in a car, which means she is seen from the chest up. 10 minutes in there is a scene where they stop at a convenience store. Here Kari is at her best as she sexually teases the teenage clerk while buying booze and cigarettes. She starts by calling attention to her outfit, mentioning that the vinyl does not breathe as an excuse to pull her bra down. ( But not off. Apparently Kari not only had her name changed in the credits but also had a no nudity clause. Even when she is shirtless she has both hands covering her breasts. ) She asks the clerk if he has ever seen breasts as nice as hers, then grabbing a porno magazine that she assumes he must have thumbed through she begins to look for the pinup model he had pleasured himself to. Finding something she likes she begins to fake an orgasm, then tells the clerk she found his fantasy girlfriend. Now fully embarrassed the clerk tries to get her to leave by telling her the booze and smokes are on the house> she tells him not to be embarrassed, and then bending over the counter while lifting her legs gives him a kiss on the lips. Another scene of note begins at 17 minutes where Kari strips out of the vinyl outfit down to the bra and some black satin bottoms with garters and sheer black stockings. She begins to have sex with Trent, and after a couple of minutes puts on a black cloth body stocking style outfit. This scene is compromised by the creepy motel owner watching the intercourse through a crack in the window shades. At 25 minutes she changes to an outfit that consists of black leather high heel bootlets, a silver metallic bustier and a black vinyl miniskirt covered by a black fuzzy jacket. At 35 minutes there is a scene in a diner where she is not wearing the annoying fuzzy jacket over this outfit. At 42 minutes during the film's sole action scene Kari makes a dangerous looking car to truck transfer ( yes, that is her hanging on the side of the cab ) wearing the outfit. And at 59 minutes she strips out of the outfit for more onscreen sex. At 1 hour 1 minute she goes into a sex shop with many different fetish outfits hanging on the wall. A minute later she tries on some of the outfits which include a leather French maid outfit ( which is on screen for an inexcusably brief few seconds ), black leather shorts with a purple and black sequin jacket, and a large black vinyl jacket over a longer black vinyl skirt and silver metallic t-shirt. The last outfit she wears for the remainder of the movie.
