Latex Movie Review: Walk All Over Me

Robotstore
What a disappointment. The title suggests a film about dominatrixes, the box says "Love, Latex, Larceny", and the distributor had been promoting the movie as if it was about Leelee Sobieski being drawn into the world of deviant sex. That is not the case. There is no latex in this movie of any kind. There is vinyl, but very little, as there is also very little of any actual S&M. I suspect that the decision for the film's name, tag lines and promotional campaign came after it was completed. That the film makers were not setting out to make a S&M comedy but when the movie was completed decided to play up the dominatrix elements in the movie to sell tickets.

Leelee plays Alberta, a cashier in a convenience store who skips town after she leaves an envelope with a cash payment to her boss ( who is possibly a mobster ) on the counter allowing it to be stolen. Never mind that plot point as it is immediately disposed of. Needing a place to stay she tracks down her old babysitter Celene ( Tricia Helfer ), and quickly discovers that she is now a prostitute who specializes as a dominatrix. When she realizes how much money her former babysitter is making, and that her John's never even touch her, Alberta comes up with a plan to impersonate Celene and make some quick cash as a dominatrix herself. This is basically the plot from Deuce Bigalow: Male Prostitute. But it is at this point the similarities end. If you were hoping to watch Leelee servicing a string of clients and slowly get herself inducted into a permanent lifestyle of S&M, you are in for a letdown. Alberta immediately falls for her John. And when they finally get back to his apartment she just barely begins when thugs looking for money the John owes them show up. The thugs mistakenly suspect that Alberta knows where the money is and she runs off, which takes the movie into a whole new direction. Alberta and Celene spend the rest of the film outsmarting the thugs as the dominatrix thing becomes a forgotten subplot. The film is suppose to be a thriller but comes off more like a failed comedy. Still those who enjoyed the movie did so because of it's comedic elements. Still others, myself included, find this movie neither thrilling nor funny. But in my case I had been suckered into thinking the subject of this movie would be about the S&M lifestyle which a virgin Leelee Sobieski gets drawn into. At least that was how it was promoted. So my disappointment in what was really on the screen may have effected my ability to enjoy this film for what it was.

THE SCENE:
Pretty much a letdown when it comes to a movie with Leelee Sobieski playing a dominatrix. Fifteen minutes into the movie she tries on one of the outfits consisting of stockings with garter belt, thick black grannie panties, thin mesh (?) corset and black bra. over this she puts on a short costume dress and hat styled after the old soviet army dress uniform which she dances around in and inevitably spills coffee on. A better outfit is worn by Leelee at 21 minutes, a short black vinyl skirt with a black satin bustier covering what is at least a pink bra, fishnet stockings and high heels and long pink satin gloves. ( she wears the same outfit in publicity photos but with black vinyl gloves ) This she covers with a coat for a few minutes. She wears the outfit again at 1 hour 11 minutes, only this time with laced vinyl boots and covered on the top by the Russian uniform costume dress. The good news is that Tricia Helfer wears a number of nice outfits. At 8 minutes into the movie she is wearing a orange satin robe which she eventually removes to reveal a black vinyl sports bra and grannie panties ensemble. At 13 minutes into the movie she is wearing a mahogany corset with a thick leather choker, long black satin gloves, stockings with garters, high heels and a fake looking short red wig to complete the effect. And at 45 minutes she is really mistreating a guy wearing black leather pants and state police top which she removes to reveal a red wife beater while beating the sh*t out of him.
