When I worked retail, sometimes the recurring thoughts which would cycle repeatedly through my head would be - My job sucks - I hate my job - I need a new job. The customer is not always right nor does it give them the right to be mean. At the same time, I'm sure I may have had off days where the boss was riding me about something inconsequential or something was going wrong and I took it out on a customer. I recently found a set of e-comics that gave me great comfort that someone else also felt like "my job sucks" and I was not the only one with imaginary revenge thoughts about how I wanted to poke out someone's eyeballs. Such is what's chronicled in the introduction of Greg Erskine's e-comic I am a Host at The Olive Garden.
Greg Erskine is the new Dilbert
Illustrator Greg Erskine perfectly captures how it sucks to have a job serving the public. Just as Dilbert was for cubicle dwellers, Erskine is for every low paid employee who has ever had to suck up, buck it up and smile egregiously to every impatient, pain-in-the-rear customer or whiny co-worker or boss. Erskine perfectly captures the angst and frustration of working a job that sucks. If you find yourself thinking "my job sucks", then gregnog.com provides the perfect antidote for boredom and venting.
I Am a Host at The Olive Garden
Though Erskine no longer works at the Olive Garden restaurant in Philadelphia, it provided ideal fodder before he moved to find a new job in New York. So if you also feel like my job sucks - I hate my job - I need a new job -- take a break from your internal whining with a hilarious collection of 26 comic strips called I Am a Host at the Olive Gardenthat can easily be devoured in one sitting. Everything that happened, Erskine says is true but he changed the names to protect the innocent but has no idea if The Olive Garden or its parent company Darden Restaurants (ala The Red Lobster and other chain restaurants) even know it exists.
