Laughter

Lisa Stanley

She carries on through the tears

And tries to find her smile

She falls behind as others laughter

Slice her heart apart

She knows she does not deserve the shame

She would never hurt a soul

But the words of one who can only lie

Have driven her this far

She can not look into their eyes and feel an ounce of hope

She can not walk toward the truth

They only see her fall

They laugh and kick and hiss and spit

And her tears are sweat and blood

She gets up and begins to walk and limp herself away

The years have passed and time should heal

The wounds of bruises and blood

But the pain still exists deep in her heart

And the laughter echoes still
