Laughter of a Very Ghastly Kind

Lucy Tonic

I'm the ultimate guesser

More like a freelance brain

I'm hired by who I once was

To figure out who I became

And a connection is gone faster

Than the speed of waves

So I'm up-up and out with it

Till the ink needs some new lips

And if I'm dead wrong about it all

Learn to swim, or brush me off

Why's your anger boiling to the top

If I'm dead wrong

At dawn when I lay my head

The buzzards come full circle

First a ring then a crackled voice

Guess I'm built schizophrenic

Still I try to cling to the marbles

Bouncing around like jello

Till someone pushes a button

And says the proof is in pudding

And if I'm dead wrong about it all

Learn to swim, or brush me off

Why's your anger boiling to the top

If I'm dead wrong

Here's some advice to those

Who left the corral long ago

The first amendment's a joke

Unless you can hide in the smoke you're

Dead-gone
