Beginning with the foundation of what leadership means and the core characteristics that must be present in order for a person to be any kind of leader, Brady and Woodward progressively build one concept upon the next until they have taken the reader through what they consider to be the five levels of influence. Their own lessons are reinforced by historical accounts of leaders in action, from Winston Churchill to the Apostle Paul.
Chapter 1 defines leadership and explains why we need to develop our leadership ability. It illustrates how different types of results indicate what type of leader a person is. It also stresses that, while some aspects of leadership ability are inherent in certain people, leadership is actually a combination of art and science--a science that anyone can learn and master.
In the second chapter, Chris and Orrin describe the three qualities that must be present in order for a person to be capable of leading. These qualities, which they refer to as the "Three H's", are "Hungry", "Hone-able", and "Honorable". Without these qualities of a hunger, or drive, the willingness and ability to be taught, and honor, no person can inspire others to his or her dream. The good news, according to Brady and Woodward, is that these qualities can be learned and refined.
In subsequent chapters, the authors describe different qualities of leaders, how to develop those qualities and what fruits to see once those qualities are developed. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to increase their own influence, whether it be in their own home, at church or in their careers.
