The truth of the matter is that Laura Bush previously known as Laura Welch was in a car accident in 1963. The public police reports show that another person was in the car with Laura and another car was involved in the accident. The other car's driver was 17-year-old Michael Douglas (not of Basic Instinct) who was fatally injured in the car wreck. Michael Douglas had broken his neck in the crash and was pronounced dead on arrival at Midland Memorial Hospital.

According to the police reports, Laura Welch failed to stop at a stop sign and then collided with Douglas' sedan. No criminal charges or lawsuits were brought forth from the accident.
