Laura Conyers Smith Municipal Rose Garden in Kansas City

Hot Fun in the Summertime Series

If you yearn for a little peace and tranquility I have just the place for you. It is the Laura Conyers Smith Municipal Rose Garden on the grounds of the Jacob L. Loose Memorial Park. It is located at 51st and Wornall Rd.

In 1931 under the direction and capable hands of Laura Conyers Smith, the Kansas City Rose Society and Garden was established.

Nestled within this two and a half acre of sheer beauty are 4,000 roses made up of 150 different varieties.

A touch of elegance to the already pristine gardens was added in the form of a fountain made of Italian stone. This happened in 2002 with generous monetary support of private contributors.

The Kansas City Rose Society provides all the roses. And in partnership with them, the Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department provides regular care and maintenance.

These gardens are open on a daily basis and admission is free.

Of course this is a popular venue for weddings and special events. On June 4-5 there will be a Kansas City Rose Society Show at the Garden Center Building at the Jacob L. Loose Memorial Park. Public showing will take place on June 5th from 1-5 p.m.

To find out about pricing details for rental go to www.kansascityrosesociety.org/ . You may also call them at 816-784-5300 for other questions and information.

It's reasonable that you might not live in this area but hopefully there is something similar in your neck of the woods that you can take advantage of.

I hope that you too can take some time out and smell the roses along the way.
