Unfortunately, it was not a good weather day in Washington DC. It was cold and raining hard. But the weather didn't seem to bother the crowd. The Party was organized in the middle of a work day, and was supposed to be starting at 12noon. That didn't matter to the crowd either.
Braving the heavy rain, thousands of people took off from work to join the tea party in Washington DC that day. People were soaking wet and waiting for the star speaker. The star speaker was none other than the famous Laura Ingraham, a radio talk show host with a huge fan following.
Laura Ingraham took the stage at 1.30pm. After she took the stage, she realized that the teleprompter was missing on the stage. She started complaining with outrage that she cannot possibly give a speech without a teleprompter and started heading towards the exit.
The thousands of people who had waited for more than 2 hours braving the heavy rain didn't get disappointed though. They erupted in huge cheers chanting very loudly "Laura, Laura" as she was trying to head towards the exit.
The crowd apparently knew very well that Laura Ingraham would never need a teleprompter. The crowd apparently knew very well that she could talk for 3 hours non-stop without a teleprompter or any external aid, as she does everyday in her extremely popular radio show heard by millions around the country. The crowd apparently also knew that Laura Ingraham is very good at humor, something that she is much better at, when compared to other radio talk show hosts in the country.
The crowd quickly realized that Laura Ingraham was mocking President Obama, who carries his teleprompter where ever he goes and finds himself in big trouble if he ever has to speak even briefly without it.
Laura Ingraham indeed was mocking President Obama, who carries the textbook sized panes of glass containing his prepared speeches where ever he goes and finds himself delivering poor gaffe-filled speeches, if he has to deliver one without the device.
After all, who would forget the way he introduced his Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius? And who would forget the way he thanked himself in front of the Irish President? And who would forget the fact that he uses the device at every event, small or large? And who would forget the fact that most of his fumbles come when he is not using the device? And who would not notice these peculiar devices taking the center stage on the dais whenever he speaks, complicating life for photographers and the media?

Post a CommentOf course Bush and all the other president's used a teleprompter, but as Raj said, only for the longer speeches (as noted in Politico http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/19663_Page2.html, not known as a Conservative blog). But W did not need a teleprompter to introduce someone, or even at one the most inspiring speeches of his administration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4BkzuV0LYE. I have heard BHO several times without TOTUS, and he has more er's & um's than a teenager with poor grammar (which as a former English Teacher, I worked with students to teach them how to speak properly to empower them to have confidence when speaking) Believe me, I have followed this reporter for some time, and he checks his facts, And do we always have to resort to name-calling, seriously?
Yes every president used a teleprompter for longer speeches, but Obama just refuses to speak even for 2 mins without the device, unlike any other president. Bush,Clinton,Carter,Reagan all has never used teleprompter for introductions / brief speeches...Do read the reference sites for full details on Obama's addiction to teleprompter and you will know that he is much much more addicted to it...
Oh, please, every single poliician, president, talking head and anyone else who speaks in public needs and uses a teleprompter. Are Ingraham and her ilk trying to say that Bush didn't use a teleprompter? I'm sure it might have SEEMED that way because he never did learn to say the word "nuclear." Then again, should we be forced to listen to people like Bush make utterly ridiculous statements, such as, when referring to gynecologists being unable to "practice their love" of women? This teleprompter controversy is just a bunch of bull from a bunch of conservatives who can't want to make Obama look as bad as possible. Hosting a radio show is a lot different than giving a speech. Ingraham is only one step from become another Ann Coulter.
