In a nutshell, Rudy Giuliani has widely expressed his support for a 'reasonable restrictions on abortion such as parental notification with a judicial bypass and a ban on partial birth abortion - except when the life of the mother is at stake.' In his website, http://www.joinrudy2008.com, he has proudly stated that in New York City, while he was the mayor, had adoptions increased to 66%, while abortions decreased over 16%. However, he acknowledged the sensitivity of this matter and that he 'understand that this is a deeply person moral dilemma, and people of good conscience can disagree respectfully.'
In Laura Ingraham's opinion, Robertson's endorsement of Giuliani came as a bit of surprise because of the latter's stand on abortion. She thinks that although a lot may be laughing behind close doors, this is definitely a significant and amazing endorsement for Rudy especially now that endorsements are separating and that in a bigger picture, the majority of the endorsement pie is actually shared by candidates (other than Giuliani) like Senator John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee.
Furthermore, she questioned how much of a following Pat Robertson may only have today to which Bill O'Reilly quickly rebutted that Robertson "still has some pretty powerful following". As a proof to his belief, he cited the Christian leader's mailing list's growing number as an example.
Ingraham agreed but pointed out that Robertson's followers are 'extremely pro-life, pro-family' and that these are social conservatives and Christian conservatives that do not agree with Giuliani's stance on certain subjects. According to her, in her program, a lot of these followers have expressed their unhappiness towards their leader's decision.
To help everyone better understand his decision, Pat Robertson in an interview (as reported in http://blog.washingtonpost.com), he said he thought it was important for him to make it clear that Rudy Giuliani is 'more than acceptable to people of faith,' and that 'given the fractured nature of the process' he thought 'it was time to solidify around one candidate.' He also insisted that although social conservative movement may see Rudy Giuliani as an unacceptable nominee, the core of the Christian population knows better.
Robertson believes that the Americans need someone who clearly sees the way to deal with the more important issues of the country like the fight against terrorist and radical Islam. He also believes that Rudy will appoint the right judges that will uphold the values of life.
Giuliani takes Robertson's endorsement of him as great evidence that he shares a common ground with the members of Christian community which is built around his emphasis to work hard in order to rid New York's Time Square of pornography and his promise to appoint strict constructionists to the Federal bench if he's elected as president.
The fight on who will become GOP's nominee for the 2008 Presidential election is everyone's game at the moment and Robertson's endorsement is just one of the many interesting events that had occurred recently.

Post a CommentWhat's funny is that Giuliani is running solely on 9/11, and Robertson says we had 9/11 coming to us because of abortion and Internet porn. What a marriage, Rudy and Pat. What's this, Rudy's fourth?
