COLOR
Wheat is a neutral tan that leaves fair skin looking slightly bronzed. This color is the perfect base as it is extremely neutral and will work well under any colors. It is hard to compare it to anything because it is in the skin tone family, but it does remind me of Stila's Kitten eyeshadow- the perfect light neutral as a shadow or a base.
FORMULA
The formula of Eye Basics is pretty good, though it is a little watery when first applied. It blends extremely easily and the application reminds me of Urban Decay's Primer Potion. One nice thing is that it doesn't leave my lids too oily or too dry but rather, moisturized. My eyes feel great after using this and the stay power is great, leaving my shadow looking flawless all day.
FUNCTIONALITY
While I do like this product, I can't say it is very functional, if you already have a primer such as Urban Decay Primer Potion or Too Faced Shadow Insurance, since they do the exact same thing. If you are looking for a color tint, for example if your everyday look is a neutral eye, than this is good for you.
SMELL
The smell of Eye Basics in Wheat is not pleasant. It is not extremely pungent, but there is a subtle odor if you stop to smell it. To me, it is a watered-down paint smell and almost smells slightly toxic. I'm not sure if there is a component that makes it smell like this, but it doesn't bother me too bad.
PRICE
Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Wheat retails for $24 at Sephora stores, sephora.com, lauramericer.com, or wherever Laura Mercier products are sold. For $24, you get .25 oz. of product, which is not bad. However, when you compare it to Urban Decay Primer Potion, it is not a very good deal. I would advise looking at other options since $24 is a little outrageous for what it is.
PACKAGING
The packaging is nothing very exciting- it is a tube with a sponge wand and has the Laura Mercier logo on the side. It is portable, although this kind of product does not need to be taken on the go.
FINAL OPINIONS
I like this product; however, I don't think it is anything spectacular. Buy it if you have the money, however, I have had better primers. I do like the color and there are several other colors to choose from, which is nice. I would try it before you buy it.
