Lauren Luke's Rise to Make-up Maven

How a "Regular Girl" Created Her Own Make-up Line

L. Lee Scott
Did you spend your high school years not fitting in? Do you spend hours trying to replicate the make-up you see on your favorite celebrities, as well as some of the women you see in stores or on the streets? Well, Lauren Luke of England did. And once she had them down, she decided to make a little video demo of one of her favorite looks. She made that video, loaded it onto YouTube, and waited to see what would happen. Over 95,000,000 - yes, 95 MILLION views later, Lauren Luke has her own make-up line, two books, a website and a blog on Glamour Magazine's UK website! And of course, her channel on YouTube where she continues to post make-up looks, with every step for achieving them! You get to see her from start to finish; no editing, she does it live. Her age? Just 28.

Lauren's make-up comes in palettes that include light and dark eyeshadow primer, one large eyeshadow, blush, two lip colors, two smaller shadows that work with the main shadow color, and a cream eyeliner. She calls her color groups My Smokey Classics, My Sultry Blues, My Vintage Glams, My Fierce Violets, and My Luscious Greens. If you shop on Sephora, you can choose to get all but the Luscious Greens with an additional lip gloss in a tube. Check the photos for My Fierce Violets and My Vintage Glams. The palettes without the extra lip gloss retail for $32.50, and with the lip gloss, for $37. Before you decide that's too expensive, think about it. You're getting three eye shadows, one of which is super-sized; two eye shadow primers (some of which sell for over $30 in other lines!), a cream eyeliner, a blush, and two lip colors plus a large tube of lip gloss for that $37. Add that up in drugstore products, and you're probably looking at $40 or more. And Lauren Luke puts them all together for you so that you don't have to decide what goes with what.

Lauren Luke is not a skinny model. She's a regular sized young woman, like most of us. She always felt that make-up and beauty products were aimed at those ultra-thin models and actresses, and her goal was to create a line that would make every woman special, at an affordable price, and one that she would love to wear herself. To say that she succeeded is an understatement.

From one short home-made "how-to" make-up video on YouTube, she's become an international success with her own cosmetic line, before she reached 30 years old. Keep watching Lauren, because she's not going to go away anytime soon. And look at her make-up on Sephora, because you'll probably find something that's perfect for you!
