When the top 2 were announced on American Idol last night, Haley Reinhart stood frozen with the proverbial deer in the headlights look. Actually, it was more like, "WHAT??? America voted ME off?"
It was quite disappointing to see considering that Haley had actually begun to garner a few more fans with her ability to bounce back after every song she butchered to show what kind of mettle and moxy she really has.
Not to mention, the girl handled falling on her butt during her killer rendition of a Led Zepplin song with complete and total aplomb.
But, none of that matters if you're a sore loser and it definitely appeared that Haley is. While she stood there with that "FU America" look on her face, her co-contestant, Lauren Alaina, also stood there. Quite awkwardly, mind you, trying to take in the moment, and yet, perhaps feeling mildly guilty for wanting to savor it. Something tells me that's how Haley wanted it too.
I don't know, maybe I'm just old fashioned, but a heartfelt congratulations to Lauren and Scotty would have given her mucho class. As it turned out, she looked like an over-confident, childish, sore loser. Definitely not a good combination if you're trying to win the hearts of the American public, particularly those who might be buying your records or your product.
Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery
On a more pleasant note, I must confess I was completely delighted that sweet, little Lauren Alaina made it into the top 2. While it's hard to argue the talent of Scotty, he has become a one trick pony in my view. No one loves country as much as me. But, I also like rib eye steak - just not every day. Lauren has a more range and room to grow as an artist. Perhaps Scotty does too. But, for now, he's rather predictable and hence, a bit boring.
It was Steven Tyler who, after they had heard Lauren audition in Nashville, said they had "found the one." I thought he was right in his assessment of Lauren then and I certainly think it's true now. She's got everything it takes to go all the way. Move over, Carrie Underwood, Lauren Alaina is coming.

Actually, Lauren clapped her hands and danced up and down before turning to Haley.
Haley didn't "butcher" any songs. There are actually songs that are not supposed to sound like a country song performed by Carrier Underwood.
Now for an observation of my own: People that say Haley is classless tend to exhibit little class themselves.
What's it say about you that you're a sore winner?
Hi Magnolia, don't have time to comment often, but wanted to stop by and say Hi!
James Durbin is my guy. I am glad it was Haley. The last two seem nicer and innocent, not like spoiled brats. I don't like her style or voice anyway. James would be the one if he had done a little more country tunes since most of the voters seem to favor country singing over the best talent.
