Lavar Arrington and 2 Starters Cut by the New York Giants

Short and Painful for Arrington

Lavar Arrington, the pro bowl linebacker, was cut by the Giants on Monday. New GM, Jerry Reese, made significant first moves as Giants general manager. Arrington who, suffered a season ending Achilles injury against the Cowboys on October 23rd, never really became an impact player for the G-Men. Arrington now has some serious baggage following him. He has had been ridden by injuries in his career and was benched his last season in Washington. He will definitely find a job somewhere next year, but not at the $7 million level he was paid by the Giants this year. He did have one bright spot for Giants and Dallas fans this year. He sacked Drew Bledsoe, in what would be his last game of the season, for a safety. Prompting former Cowboys' Head Coach Bill Parcells to bench Bledsoe and run with rookie Tony Romo for the rest of the year.

The other Giants that were released on Monday were linebacker Carlos Emmons and left tackle Luke Petitgout. Carlos Emmons, the hard hitting linebacker, did a decent job when he played. Over the past two seasons he has missed 11 games due to a torn pectoral muscle. Petitgout, the first round draft pick out of Notre Dame, started 106 games over eight seasons with the Giants. His season ended last year when he broke his leg in November. Petitgout was under constant fire from New York media for being undisciplined during his tenure with the Giants.
