Law and Order SVU (special victims unit) was a genius network drama created by producer Dick Wolf. Many things have changed since Law and Order SVU first appeared on the air September 20, 1999. To date it has created more the 234 hit episodes, Law and Order SVU is currently in its' 11^th year on the air. Law and Order SVU is a very entertaining drama with hints of sarcastic comedy between its' characters, each character on Law and Oder SVU has their very own an unique style of acting and persona to add to the show. Other than the shows noticeable entertainment value to people that like to see the darker side of the law and humanity, Law and Order SVU can also be very educational with legalities of certain crimes and the many psychological disorders that are described in the show. Elliot Stabler played by Christopher Meloni is a workaholic "sex" detective with a short fuse, but at the same time portrays an empathetic and charismatic stage presence. On Law and Order SVU he is portrayed as a hot tempered detective, an ex-Marine that served in desert storm; most notably is his Marine Corps tattoo of a globe and anchor on his inner right forearm seen on Law and Order SVU. Many that watch the Law and Order SVU actually believe that Christopher Meloni is an ex-Marine, Christopher Meloni's acting is so good and he seems to be aggressive enough coupled with a short fuse that it is actually believable that he is an ex-Marine; however this is not true, again it is only a show the tattoo is a temporary one. Christopher Meloni does however have a real tattoo of a butterfly on his upper thigh and the crucifixion of Christ tattooed on his upper left arm. Christopher Meloni had many odd jobs before getting his acting break on Law and Order SVU, one thing to also keep in mind is that Christopher Meloni has aged very well over the years making him look quite a bit younger than he really is, Christopher Meloni is currently 48 years old.Christopher Meloni has worked as bouncer, bartender, and personal trainer. Christopher Meloni worked his way up the acting ladder with commercials, short-lived television series, and small parts in many films before Law and Order SVU. His first noticeable role was as the short tempered son of a mafia ring leader in the 1996 thriller Bound. He also appeared as Julia Roberts' fiance in Runaway Bride. From 1998-2003, Christopher Meloni portrayed a bisexual serial killer on the HBO series Oz; the role won him a great deal of media attention, particularly within the gay community, in which he is considered a sex symbol. He has also worked under many different stage names that appear in credits such as when he played the character of Freakshow in Harold and Kumar Go to Whitecastle. Christoper Meloni was married in 2004 to Doris Williams (a production designer) and has two children, a boy and a girl. Another interesting fact about Christopher Meloni's family life is that his father is an Endocrinologist.

Olivia Benson is a strong willed, street smart, and empathetic detective played by Mariska Hargitay who is the partner of Christopher Meloni and also the female lead roll on Law and Order SVU. The character Mariska Hargitay portrays is the child product of a rape that her alcoholic mother endured years in the past. Marisk Hargitay brings a real flair to Law and Order SVU with her strong willed female lead presence. Mariska Hagritay and her partner on Law and Order SVU Christopher Meloni have an excellent male and female repose without much tension between the two sexes, on Law and order SVU they keep their jobs' professionalism without any kind of sexual overtones between the two, which keeps the character of Elliot's family man image intact. Even with a female detective partner for 11 years he has seemed to have the will power to stay married, faithful, and support his four children even with the beautiful Mariska Hargitay in his presence at all times making his character on Law and Order SVU a positive male influential figure for it's viewers.

In 1982, Mariska Hargitay was crowned Miss Beverly Hills USA. Mariska Hargitay made her screen debut with a small role in Star 80. Within a few years Mariska Hargitay took on many roles in the television series Downtown and Falcon Crest, in which she played the character Carly Fixx. Mariska Hargitay portrayed a police officer named Angela Garcia in the 1992 series Tequila & Bonetti, and appeared in an episode of Seinfeld. Mariska Hargitay also portrayed Didi Edelstein, the sexy next-door neighbor in the 1995 sitcom Can't Hurry Love. In 1997, Mariska Hargitay played detective Nina Echeverria on the drama series Prince Street, and had a recurring role as Cynthia Hooper during the fourth season of ER. With all of these accolades and achievements and the unusual success of Law and Order SVU Mariska Hargitay was acknowledged as the highest paid TV actress working today in the Guinness Book of World Records 2008 Edition. Mariska Hagritay is also well known for her charity work with The Joyful Heart Foundation for sexually assaulted victims and amazingly Mariska speaks four different languages that English including Hungarian, French, Spanish, and Italian. Also, most notably Marisk Hargitay is the daughter 50's sexual icon Jayne Mansfield.

Ice-T the famous rapper and production artist from the days of NWA plays detective Fin Tutuola an edgy and willful older detective that was transferred to Law and Order SVU from a narcotics division. Ice-T makes a very good, but seemingly unlikely connection to Law and Order SVU. His off screen personality as a former gangster and drug dealer really seems to support his role quite well. He is accompanied by his permanent even older partner Richard Belzer who plays detective John Munch. Both Belzer and Ice-T are very accomplished in their careers of broadcasting and have been especially successful on Law and Order SVU. Richard Belzer is a well known comedian, writer, and actor. Richard Belzer has written 5 books and is well known for his government conspiracy theories which also appear as part of his characterization on Law and Order SVU and are often disregarded and made jokes of by his partner on the show Ice-T. Richard Belzer hasn't had an easy life as it would appear, his mother died when he was 18 years old from cancer and his father committed suicide when he was 22 years old. He was also diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1984. Ice-T (Tracy Marrow) didn't have it made in his early days either before Law and Order SVU, his mother died of a heart attack when he was in the third grade and his father died four years later. It's no wonder why Richard Belzer and Ice-T make such a good combination on the show from similar life experiences although they were born years apart and miles of distance in class and society standards. Ice-T is very unique in that other than his obsessions with rap music that began at a very early age, straight out of high school he went into the U.S. Army and became a successful Army Ranger leaving behind his life of crime from South Central Los Angeles.

Overall Law and Order SVU is quite an entertaining show that hinges on much mystery and suspense. Law and Order SVU is known for it's exciting twists and turns making it one of the major networks most talked about shows. I can't personally remember an episode that I thought was dull or had a lack of content, so tune in and watch this thrilling "sex" crime drama.
