Lawmakers and "Angels" Try to Protect Funerals of Christina Green and Other Shooting Victims from the Westboro Baptist Church

The Westboro Baptist Church is planning to protest the funerals of 9-year-old Christina Green and the other Tucson shooting victims with its message of hate. Fortunately, "angels" and lawmakers are doing their best to try and protect the mourners at the funerals from the cruel Westboro Baptist Church protesters.

As previously reported, the Westboro Baptist Church is planning to protest the funerals of the Tucson shooting victims, and the organization has a flyer up on its website condoning shooter Jared Loughner for killing the six unfortunate people that lost their lives in the terrible tragedy. According to the Westboro Baptist Church's convoluted message of hate, Jared Loughner was acting as the arm of God by punishing the government for its attempts to "silence our kind warning to obey God".

Of course the Westboro Baptist Church's messages and protests are never kind; the group has protested the funerals of soldiers, people who lost their lives to the AIDS virus, and gay citizens, with its most recent funeral protest being that of Elizabeth Edwards. The group's planned protest of Christina Green's funeral is laid out in a flyer that attacks her family for being members of the Roman Catholic Church, proclaiming "God Hates Catholics!"

Fortunately, the Westboro Baptist Church might be outnumbered by peaceful citizens trying to protect funeral-goers from their messages of hate. A group in Tucson is planning an "angel action", which involves silent, peaceful participants wearing very large angel wings to shield funeral attendees from the Westboro Baptist Church protestors. A similar strategy worked very well at the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards, where a "human buffer" composed of people carrying signs with peaceful words like "Hope" and "Grace" outnumbered the Westboro Baptist Church members.

But the Westboro Baptist Church might not have to be buffered away at the funerals of the Tucson shooting victims. Christina Green's funeral is set for January 13th, and lawmakers in Arizona are rushing to take action and do what they can to stop the Westboro Baptist Church from making the funeral an even sadder spectacle. They want to pass a bill that would keep the protestors 300 feet away from the funeral an hour before, during, and an hour after it has ended.

Hopefully this bill can get passed and others like it follow, finally putting an end to the Westboro Baptist Church protestors' ability to make tragic events even more devastatingly heartbreaking. But if it doesn't, at least Christina Green's family has a group of real angels watching over them.
